...the character designers of Sega stuck with the Rabbit design for Sonic?

This picture is old. Really really old. I made this in 2003, that's how old it is. Thing is, I could have sworn I already uploaded this here, but upon scanning through my gallery it turns out I didn't. Huh.
So I worked on it a little more, added shading and uploaded it now, yay!

Anyway, I was hunting through my harddrive for random junk earlier today when I stumbled upon this. I recall way back then, a topic on the Moogle Cavern popped up asking people what they thought would have happened to the Sonic franchise if Sega had made a few different decisions back then.
One possibility that popped up was that nobody would have come to the idea of Sonic being a hedgehog, and instead, sticking with the Rabbit design they thought up for him in pre-production.

The ball started rolling, and soon we started wondering what'd happen to the other hedgehogs then; Amy, and of course Shadow.

....Then I made this.

Obviously he is the greatest rabbit ever.

EDIT: Changed the transparency colour so it'll look better on the front page.
