Description I forgot to mention that in case you reset all your PS settings you should probably save your new brushes. Which you do by going to the little gear icon in the top right corner of the brush box and then click 'save brushes'

As much as I love the look of the smudge brush with scattering I could never get it to work smoothly on my photoshop. Literally one stroke takes a minute to finish it lags so much.

Thats too bad. I guess digital painting is out of the question now. I've also even had problems with big brushes in general, maybe thats a reason my digital works are so bad? would a graphics card help? I don't have the room for another computer.Β

Great tip about scattering with the smudge tool, woah. I've been using the mixer brush with the fingerpaint option toggled to get a similar effect, but that smudge looks so smooth and lovely, very much like what I'm used to with Open Canvas. Thanks for this tutorial! Gonna have to try out these tips when I start making my own brushes.

Hey hibbary, do you think you will ever do a tutorial on smooth lineart? Love all the ones you have done so far!

Unfortunately smooth lineart is one of those things that comes down to pure skill. I can give tips on how to learn it but ultimately the answer is that you have to put in your ten thousand hours.Β

I remember you saying that about the ten thousand hour rule.
I've been drawing my butt off mainly using my elbow to draw and practicing just inking a lot lately, but I honestly feel my inks are getting worse the more I practice. I can't shake the feeling I'm going in the wrong direction because they just look so BAAAD, I mean nothing about them is any good and I have sketchbooks full of these. Its super frustrating. I'd love to hear any tips or ways to practice I can because I've seen some people get it so much quicker and younger and others seem to practice for years and never get good. Plus it doesn't help that I have no one to really critique me.Β

It's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO USEFUL! SO USEFUL! Β Like, you have to be careful not to have a smudgy mess, but it is basically the equivalent of scumbling an oil painting with a rag, which is one of the most handy ways of dispersing light, shadow, and color to unify the whole and then go back in to pick out details.Β
