Description the second part of

it gets into the method a little more and includes some of my process. Don't take these drawings as anatomically perfect. I am not telling you how to draw a certain figure, rather, how to teach yourself how to draw figures.

Edit: Sorry dudes; I see a few wee spelling and grammatical errors but it's soooo late and I'm in bed. I'll fix them in the morning.

seriously...im near tears by reading this....because I always "outmanouver" myself by listening to all those doubts in me and so I just stopped putting any effort into drawing....because i got to a point where i can only become better if I actually "work" on it your last words....are probably so true that I need to sleep over it now to make a decision if i want to plunge into the cold water and just start again to start somewhere....

thanks will try that step by step...its just so frustrating if one havent drawn for quite some times, everything looks so ugly at first because of the lost hand control :/

Like hibbary said, you can go slowly, one step at a time. I make it a point to just doodle now and then every day, even if it's just an eye or a face or something silly and little. Keeps the drawing machine well lubricated, and tells yourself that yes, you are still doing this and it's something there everyday. Make it a fun habit. ^-^

Anyway, I'll stop randomly injecting myself here and slink away.. >.>

It doesn't have to be a plunge! You can tiptoe in. The less you jar yourself painfully the more likely you are to continue.

Those are really helpful
If you have more advices I hope you do more of this |3

And uh, a problem I seem to have most of the time is finding good references, do you have specific places you go to find references, or do you just Google stuff and pick images you think fit? And do you save what you use "for future reference" or just discard it?

I hope you can answer that :3
Thanks for all the good advices.

I'll google things. For human figures I'll go to posemaniacs.com. Veeeeery helpful!

if I'm looking for something I can direct-reference I use DA stock or go to morguefile.com. Morguefile contains free stock photography.

Wow. These are super awesome! One of my biggest problems is that I don't study anatomy or reference real people or critters as often as I should. I mean, I do, but I love drawing from my head a little too much. But that's caused the problem of being stuck in limbo. I'm not improving much. At the same time, however, with no money or anything for schooling, I'm left no choice. And sometimes it's hard to know how to word things for my searches. I don't always know what sort of pose I need before I start drawing, and then when I do, it's hard to put to words. Know what I mean?

Anyway, this is cool. It's super nice of you to take the time to do this. I've never tried the 'thumbnail' angle though. I usually sketch mostly on sketchpads or loose paper. Don't have an art program. Or a tablet. Just regular automatic pencils and paper.

I do the same thing. I have a bad slacking habit. But even with that habit, I've gotten *somewhere*.

Yes, I do know what you mean. Fortunately for us, finding images to reference is easier than it has ever been before. We have to try less hard than the pre-internet Masters and they're freakin' amazing, so it's just a matter of putting effort.

these are all pencil sketches, so I'm with you there. you can use the thumbnail method even if you'd working traditionally.

Really? Is it 'digital' pencil though? There's a few that looked like real pencil but some of the others looked like the pencil tool I've heard people can use.

They're all real pencil, except for the red words.

This is really awesome and I am super-stealing this method. I'm glad you went with this over my learn-how-to-draw-all-my-characters tutorial idea.

Yeah you're going to have to make that tutorial yourself

I'm the last person who knows how to draw my characters though. :{ Maybe someday... someday.

Perhaps over a blind, armless man who can only taste shapes and has to use his tongue to recreate drawings. His might be a little more moist than my attempts.
