"Poppy, what is the Summer Solstice?"

Poppy lifted her head from where she was grazing and turned so she could see the young colt out of her good eye. "It's the start of summer and the longest day of the year," She said, smiling to him. Although the colt couldn't see her, he seemed to read the positive energy she was giving off and he smiled back.

"Mom said that in her old herd, they would celebrate the week leading up to the summer solstice by travelling all day and all night and spending the day of the solstice here at the Great Lake!" Deimos said with an enthusiastic toss of his head. Poppy grinned and nuzzled the bay sabino's dark locks. "Is that why we're spending so much time here?"

"Aspodel never told me about that!" The tobiano mare said. "No, we're staying here because their is a drought and this is the safest place to be. Once it is over, we'll return to the area we were located at before,"

"What's a drought?"

"A drought is time when there isn't very much rain and so everything starts drying up. The little river that we stayed by started drying up and from what I've heard from the other herds, the Great Lake is the only place that still has lots of water. That's why we're here and that's why there are so many other herds around!"

"If everyone is going through a hard time, then why did that bachelor take Adikia?"

"Some stallions aren't very nice and they'll take advantage of whatever opportunity comes their way. Promise you won't be like that when you grow up, okay?"

"I promise!" Deimos said, striking a valiant pose. Poppy laughed.
