Man, kinda surprised I never tackled this one before.So, Tenchi Muyo is kind of an...iffy series, really. For one the people making it all apparently hated each other and as such the anime itself had three different continuities and went through tons of art style changes (to the point where fans often derided their new 'rat faces' and suchlike), and for another, it's a freaking harem anime.
Granted it's a harem anime where most of the cast kicks a lot of ass (more so in Universe than in the other two, but, anyway) but it's still a harem anime (with only two legitimate options but ANYWAY).
Ryoko's the biggest badass of the bunch, though. Stupidly overpowered, overendowed, and over-insanely coiffed. And goddamn does it ever work for her.
Plus she has a kitty cat/rabbit hybrid that turns into a laser spewing space ship. Hell yeah.
It's really a toss up between her and Kiyone as to who my favorite cast member is, but it's looking like Ryoko's a lot more fun to draw.
Tenchi Muyo and related (C) ...wait, shit, who owns all this stuff now? Pioneer at one point or something?

This is pretty. (: I really love Ryoko, as her character is such a complex slew of traits that were thrown into one character; although I love the artwork and animation of the universe series, I really love her character better in the OVA series better because you get to see more of the different sides to her. Well, that and you can reaaally see how much she cares for Tenchi and why; whereas in universe it really starts as simple flirting and her just trying to spite the other women, and you don't see a more sensitive side of her until much later in the show, and in very small, rare glimpses through out the universe series.
I really don't like the third OVA though, as the animation is TOO squeaky clean and they made the characters look sort of fugly... That, and they screwed the story up majorly. They changed so many different things about the story that just made it confusing and not make sense at all.

Nice work on Ryoko in the family way--the joke in the first TM and Tenchi Universe has come to pass. Ryoko's my favorite, with Mihoshi and Kiyone in tow. I'm not sure about the backstage politics, but I agree that the TM franchise has had several different backstories on how the characters get together.

I used to be the biggest fan. I know all about the sordid behind-the-scenes antics.
I liked Tenchi back when it seemed like he would actually choose ONE of them. I actually like harem animes of that flavor. But in the third OVA and ongoing series, it seems they introduce one-shot characters who do nothing but marry Tenchi in the end. That, and one scene has his very own grandmother desperately trying to open-mouth kiss him, in front of his grandfather.
The Universe series will always be my favorite. Started weakly, ended fantastically.

While there's something to be said for the first series' second season opening (Ryoko being oddly nurturing towards Ryo-ohki was mind bogglingly attractive for some reason), Universe is my favorite too, since stuff actually happens in it. Big ol' universal adventure AND Kiyone not being someone's dead mom? Hurrah!
I'm tempted to go back and start watching the series again but I'm pretty sure I'll hate it if I do. Hm, impasse...

This is really good, one of your best. The hair is really good here. Like her's? Close enough. The only flaw is under her arm, those hairs look like they come out of nowhere and aren't laigned with the hair above her arm. But that's all, overall well done
