"Whoa, Alex, can you hear us?" asked Carrie, as she knocked on the lamp. There was no reply. “So, do we need to rub it, Martha, or can Alex come out on her own?"

“You have to rub it.” Martha explained.

When Carrie rubbed the lamp, blue smoke came out of it and formed into Alex with a blue ponytail and a purple vest. The vest, however, now looked very oriental. "Yo guys, how do I look?"

"Cool!" said Carrie.
"Amazing!" said Grace.
"Neat!" said Annie.

Alex was content. “Martha, may I speak to you in private? Can we go inside my lamp?”

Martha nodded and followed Alex into the lamp. It was similar to Martha’s lamp, only its walls glowed in light purple. Inside the lamp, Alex's tail also formed into her legs, now clad in blue harem pants and slippers. “What’s up with the harem clothes thing?” Alex asked.

“They are your normal clothes now.” Martha replies. “You’ll find out soon, that they are very comfortable inside this hot lamp.”

“I see. But how do I change my clothes? Or form legs?” Alex asked.

“Basically, you imagine it to happen and it happens. It’s the same with wishes.”

Alex concentrated and her clothes changed to her normal, casual clothes. Alex took a deep breath.
“Am I trapped inside this lamp?”

“There are a few things you should know: You are now semi-bound to your lamp. That means, you can stay outside your lamp for 12 hours. Then, you have to spend 12 more hours inside, unless someone summons you. You can spend up the 12 hours outside, but once they are finished, you have to go inside. It's the same rules that I'm also bound to, but you don't have to grant wishes.” Martha explained.

“That’s what I wanted to ask you, anyway. Earlier, the walls of the lamp glowed and I was sucked outside. What happened?” Alex asked

“It seems that even as a semi-bound genie, you can be summoned. Still, you are not forced to grant wishes.” Martha explanation was cut short, when the walls began to glow again. “Just like now!”

As the ebony-colored genie was sucked out of the lamp, Martha followed her.

When they materialized outside the lamp again, Alex and Martha saw that it was Carrie again who rubbed that lamp. “We worried about you and since rubbing her lamp will summon Martha, I gave Alex's lamp a try as well. So do I get three wishes from you as well, Alex?” Carrie asks.

“I’m not bound to grant any wishes!” Alex replies. “But with you, I will make an exception. If I like your wish, I will grant it. Do you have a wish right now?”

Carrie thought for a moment. The she shook her head.

“How about you?” Alex turned towards the rest of the gang. Max, Annie, Grace, one after the other denied.

“I would like a wish!” suddenly Bella said. The two mean girls had returned. “It seems you are really thinking you are a genie now. So why don’t you grant me a wish?” she grabbed the lamp from Carrie’s hands and rubbed it. “Or are you not even able to grant a wish?” she mocked Alex.

“What do you wish for?” Alex replied ice-cold.

“Let’s see!” Bella took a look around. When she saw Max, she smiled. “I’m the most popular and best-looking girl in school…”

“Debatable…” Max interjected.

“I wish I was as smart as Max, so I will get top grades on tests as well!” Bella gave Max a triumphant look.

Alex grinned wickedly. “Your wish is granted, Bella!” When she blinked, a glow surrounded Bella. Her designer clothes changed into a sweater, a green skirt that reached over her knees, white socks and brown patent leather loafers. To complete the change in her looks, her hair grew into a pair of pigtails and round nerdy glasses appeared on her nose.

“What did you do to me!” the new nerd asked.

“I granted your wish. You might have realized that you are much more intelligent now.” Alex explained. Bella nodded. “But such changes have a price. I took away your sense for fashion and also made you less popular at school. In short, you are now the newest nerd girl in our school.”

“But… but… That’s not what I had in mind. Can I make another wish?” Bella panicked.

“Oh, you can make another wish, if you dare.” Alex played with her fingers. “You know what they say: Be careful what you wish for. I’m sure I’ll find a creative way to grant your next wish.”

Bella swallowed. “I guess I have to live with it.”

“Don’t worry, Bella. I can show you some interesting places. Interesting for intelligent people like us.” Max proposed.

Bella sighed. “I might make as well the best of my situation.”

“Where did Franny go?” Grace asked.

“She ran away when Bella was nerdified.” Annie explained.

“Don’t worry about her. Let’s welcome Bella to our group.” Carrie proposed. Bella nodded and all of the gang welcomed their newest member.
