Jonathan looked over his shoulder. He had barely escaped the long arms of that rubber girl but now, it seemed that he had lost her. The night was very successful and he had stolen a valuable collier from a hotel room. Now, he had to get out of the town as soon as possible and the last thing he needed was one of these pesky rubber girls. Suddenly, Jonathan stopped dead in his track when a woman he knew stepped in his path. “Great! Another Rubbergirl!” he thought.

“Long Time not seen, Jonathan!” Carrie mocked him.

Jonathan fetched a flare from his belt. “Come on Carrie! You know what will happen if I light that!”

“Bring it on, bright boy!” was all Carrie replied.

Jonathan lit the flare and tried to hit her arm with it, expecting it to melt Carries body. But instead, the flare went right through her body, which had turned into smoke. Jonathan had to struggle to keep his balance. This was the distraction Martha needed. She stretched her arms and wrapped them around Jonathan’s body. The thief was nearly completely immobilized – but only nearly. Somehow, he managed to move his hand and the flare touched Martha’s arm. The arm immediately melted. With a big effort of force, Jonathan broke free. But he had no time to rejoice, as Carrie suddenly dropped an empty trashcan over his head.
Meanwhile, several passersby had been attracted by the scene. Among them were also two policemen. Martha tried to hide her molten arm from the views, but for the policemen, it looked like Martha was injured.

“Are you hurt?” one of them investigated.

“It’s nothing serious. I and my friend, we were attacked by this guy with a flare. Fortunately, we could doge his attacks. I just got a bruise.” Martha explained.

Fortunately, some passersby confirmed the attack by the thief but nobody mentioned that Carries body had turned into smoke or Martha’s arms had stretched. So, the policemen decided to take the thief and the girls to the police station for further inquiries. Martha was very worried since she had no idea how to explain why the thief attacked her, but when the policemen found the stolen collier in the thief’s pocket, Martha just assumed, that the thief had recognized her as an employee of the hotel and thus thought she was looking for him and attacked her. For the policemen, this was trustworthy enough to clear Martha and Carrie of all charges. They even gave them a lift back to the hotel. While the police informed M. Sprüngli and the owner of the collier about the recent events, Martha and Carrie got some rest. Carrie went to tell her teacher she was ok, while Martha sat down on her favorite place on the sofa in the lobby.

“What a day!” she thought. “I’m human again, but I’m already into trouble. It really hurt when the thief hit me with the flare. Haven’t felt that pain since I became a genie. I’m not sure if being a rubbergirl is that good at all. But I still got two wishes left. I can surely use them to become a normal human for good. But do I really want this…”

Martha’s thoughts were suddenly interrupted, when Carrie called her: “Martha, I need your help. We got a problem!”
