“Do you have any plans for next Saturday yet, Martha?“ Babette asked her colleague.“Nothing yet, why?” Martha replied.
“I’m celebrating my 25thbirthday. I’ve invited all of my friends. David and Amelia are coming too.” Babette explained.
“Count me in! I’ll be coming too!” Martha glowed with anticipation.
“You can bring your boyfriend along. It would be nice to meet him for the first time.” Babette proposed.
“I’m not sure if he will be coming along. He’s a quite shy guy. Besides, he’s not my boyfriend!” Martha replied, sounding quite annoyed.
“Ok, he’s not your boyfriend, but I’d like to meet him.” Babette insisted.
“Fine. I’ll ask him. But don’t expect too much.” Martha finally admitted.
A few hours later, Martha met Sami inside his lamp. Of course, she invited him to the party.
“Thank you for the offer,” Sami replied, “But I'd rather not go there. I only know you and Amelia. What would the others say if they see a blue genie?”
“You mustn’t go there as a blue genie. Why don’t you change your appearance into that of normal human? You can even choose a middle-eastern appearance.” Martha proposed.
“No! That’s not a good idea.” Sami sounded quite terrified.
“Come on! Do it for me pleaaase!” Martha crawled on to Sami, trying to seduce him to change his mind.
For a moment, Sami seemed to waver. Eventually, he turned his head away from her. “Listen, Martha. I don’t feel ready yet to meet so many humans. Please don’t force me to. We can go to another place if you like.”
“It’s alright, Sami. I won’t force you to do anything. If you want to go to another place, that’s okay with me. But I will go to that party.” Martha was quite disappointed. But then she thought: ‘Maybe a birthday party is still a bit too much for Sami. If we go out to another occasion, he might get used to humans first.’
“Will you stay for the night?” Sami asked.
Martha felt too disappointed at the moment. If she would go now, maybe Sami would think about his decision. “I’m sorry Sami, but my master awaits me. I’ll see you again as soon as possible.” She gave him a strong good-bye hug, then left Sami’s lamp.
