Description
After the events at the club, Hermione returned to doing basically nothing else but painting. Even Martha had to spend some days inside her lamp again. And Tony hadn’t contacted Hermione either, until two weeks later an invitation to his birthday party arrived. When Hermione and Martha knocked on Tony’s door, Stefania opened the door. Since they had no news from Tony, both women were pretty surprised. Stefania bid them to the living room. Then, Tony came out of the kitchen, drying his hands on his apron.“Welcome! I’m happy you could come!” They shook hands. “Please excuse me, I have to get back into the kitchen. Or we’ll get charcoal for diner!”
“No problem! We’ll wait here.” Hermione replied.
“Do you want something to drink?” Stefania asked while Tony returned to the kitchen.
Both women agreed. When all the three of them were sitting, Hermione asked Stefania: “I didn’t know you and Tony were together. He never mentioned you since the event at the club.”
“We decided to surprise you today.”
“And you did!” Hermione replied. “But how comes you got together?”
“I must admit that back at the club, I just danced with Tony so Martha would turn me back into a man. But even at the dance floor, I felt strangely connected to Tony. As you already know, Carlo forced me to come with him, but Tony and Martha rescued me the next day. It felt so good to be with Tony, that I agreed to meet him again. We met several times since then, went to cinema or dancing. Every date was better than the one before. And now, we are going steady. You have no idea what a loving person Tony is.” Stefania reported with gleaming eyes.
At these words, Hermione lowered her head and mumble with disappointment: “Yeah, you’re really a lucky girl!” She felt as if somebody had hit her right in the stomach, as she realized, that she has lost Tony for good.
“Did you tell him who you’ve been before?” Martha interjected.
“No! Of course not!” Stefania replied in a lowered but hounded voice. “I’m happy as I am now. I don’t want to be turned back. Please don’t do it! And don’t tell Tony about my past. He might turn away from me if he knows.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t change you if you don’t ask for it! I’d even like to help you!” Martha answered.
“There is something you can help me with: Since two weeks ago, I didn’t exist as a woman. I already got some minor trouble, since I don’t have any papers on me. I really wish I’d have all the legal records so this could be a real persona.”
“Wish granted!” Martha replied and blinked. A gift-wrapped box appeared which she passed to Stefania. “This is my gift to you!” the genie replied.
When Stefania opened it, it contained a new ID-card, driver’s license and other papers that made Stefania a legal person. “Thank you very much!” Stefania replied.
A few minutes later, Tony returned from the kitchen with the starters. Hermione and Martha congratulated him and gave him their gift: The facsimile of an ancient book he had mentioned some time ago. He was seemingly impressed by the gift but not totally in joy. “I’m glad you like. Though I understand that there is a more important gift you got.” Hermione said. She tried to sound cheerful but to a considerate observer would see, that her happiness was but forced.
“You’re right. My best gift was Stefania. And I’m totally happy” Tony replied. He embraced Stefania and both kissed passionately. Martha blushed slightly at this sight, since it was her who gave Tony that gift.
The rest of the evening, Martha, Tony and Stefania had a great time. Only Hermione remained rather silent. “I’m so stupid!” she thought to herself. “Martha was right: I missed my biggest chance in life! All that is left is my art. I wish I was home right now.” But she forced herself to look happy so she wouldn’t spoil the evening for her friends.
