Un doodle muy rápido inspirado por el que podría ser el simio más pequeño conocido del registro fósil- o al menos uno de los más pequeños. Mientras que Gigantopithecus es famoso en todo el mundo, Simiolus minutus no recibe mucha atención; fue un simio temprano (del Mioceno) que habitó África oriental y al que se han estimado apenas 3 kg- es decir, más pequeño que un gato doméstico promedio, y tan solo una centésima parte del peso estimado de un Gigantopithecus adulto.
Estos micro-simios parecen haber sido parte de una radiación temprana de hominoideos que "intentaron" especializarse como folívoros (comedores de hojas). Por desgracia para ellos, los monos colobinos parecen haberlos superado en adaptacion a este estilo de vida sorprendentemente exigente, y Simiolus y los suyos acabaron por desaparecer.

A very quick doodle inspired by what could be the smallest ape known from the fossil record- or at the very least one of the smallest. While Gigantopithecus is famous around the world, Simiolus minutus gets no attention; it was an early ape (Miocene) that lived in eastern Africa. With an estimated mass of 3 kg, it was smaller than your average house cat and only one hundredth of the size of an adult Gigantopithecus as currently estimated.
These micro-apes seemingly were part of an early ape radiation that attempted to become specialized folivores (leaf eaters). Unfortunately for them, colobine monkeys seemingly outperformed them in this very demanding lifestyle, and Simiolus and its kind eventually went extinct.
