Description
Since a couple people have asked, here's a rough tutorial on how to start your own Bayonetta guns! This is only the beginning though... you still have to do sanding, sculpting, coating and painting... but this should give everyone a rough idea of how I started
All the parts should be at the correct size if printed at 96 DPI.
For more pictures of progress, take a look at my progress pic in scraps. Hopefully that'll help!

Honestly? Just hot glue. A lot of things eat through insulation foam like that.. it's just styrofoam basically. For instance, before using spray paint on it, you'll have to seal it with something (like mod podge) or it'll eat right through the raw foam.

Hello! I'm using this to make a more lightweight version (I'll probably regret it later lol) by using Styrofoam sheet instead of insulation foam. Cutting was hell thanks to the cheap Styrofoam cutter I bought.
I followed your foam core board though I'm wondering if the one without cardboard would have been better.
And I tried using corrugated plastic sheet for the barrels by slitting down one side of it to curve them into cylinders.
Used the corrugated plastic sheet for the pieces as well, which I think should be 12 instead of 24 (is that typo or am I doing something wrong?)
Thanks again for this tutorial!

Oops! You're right, it is a typo! It should be 12, 3 for each barrel.
And the way I did it was a quick and dirty way to get it done... let me know when yours are done, I'd love to see yours finished

This tutorial helped me out a lot. Im working on finishing the prototype so I can get the whole thing cast in plastic.
This has been an interesting prop to build.
Though form core board is a pain in the butt to cut, sharp blade or not.

It is a pain, but I can't imagine casting out of plastic! Good luck with that. How do you cast out of plastic, is there some kind of tutorial about it? I would like to learn more

halafax In reply to HoiHoiSan [2010-08-17 02:54:41 +0000 UTC]
there are a lot of tutorials on it on you tube. Its not cheap, but its really cool to use. Its just like pouring cake batter for the most part. There is a lot more prep work involved, but its really nice on the end product. There are different kinds of molds as well. Once piece and two piece molds. Ive been wanting an excuse to do this for years. So these guns give it to me. Ill get you pictures when I get them finished. Again thanks for the tutorial. Did you get my message about how to attach the guns to the shoes? I thought I posted it, but I think DA ate it. My idea is to use scope mounts to attach the guns to the shoes. The theory is sound so I will test it and find out if its 100%, also remember epoxy resin glue is your friend.

Its called smooth on
www.smooth-on.com
find a local dealer, they charge out the nose in shipping. But the stuff is really easy to work with.
Its not cheap, but the props are really durable

Wow! I'm amazed by that! I can do fiberglass casting, and this is very similar! I really want to use FlexFoamIt to make my giant mascot costumes now... just sculpt a skeleton shape, mold a flexible mask, cover with felt! I wonder if that would work? Sounds so cool!

halafax In reply to HoiHoiSan [2010-08-27 05:01:29 +0000 UTC]
I did find a draw back, but I managed to get around it.
But the plastic is very versatile.
I mean its durable, and once you get the paint to stick to it, its very simple to paint.
I will be casting the charms out of plastic too. In some degrees its double work, but the material is solid so I dont have to worry about surprises after ward.

um... 96dpi, but how many ppi, because that can change your resulting size too.

HoiHoiSan In reply to RPlushie [2010-04-08 18:39:45 +0000 UTC]
Sorry, I tend to use DPI and PPI interchangably. I didn't really expect anyone to be screen printing these.

RPlushie In reply to HoiHoiSan [2010-04-09 05:18:43 +0000 UTC]
in some cases you get DPI and PPI -both- effecting the image, its kinda strange how its happened. i've seen someone do up something about it how they had the image as high DPI but it was still showing up smaller then they needed it. then they explained a difference between the two... i didn't pay much attention

HoiHoiSan In reply to RPlushie [2010-04-09 05:46:21 +0000 UTC]
In this instance, the programs I use have DPI and PPI interchangably. This particular file, 96DPI is also 96PPI.
