This one is not a mistake.
In the dark age kings and peeps got "kidd-napped" if  there leader  bring an army.... it was so likely  there a dead person. So mostly they payed the price.

Yeah

The Bog King started the whole kidnapping thing, though.  When he kidnapped the Sugar Plum fairy.  (I mean, what with how gross love potions are you kind of side with him... but it was probably technicaly not legal for him to hold a fairy prisoner.)

If you thank so. ;D but I am sure the fair king and most were frighten of him .......LOL(are you judging goblin and there laws? or there lack of XD  )
I love this true hilarious movie ,but I might have died of embarrasse-ness, a time or three
logic <---- we don't need logic it was fun.

I'm judging the goblin's hypocricy.  I mean... It doesn't destroy the movie for me or anything, but it's like "*facepalm* Dude!  Stoooop!"  Which was doubtless the intended reaction.

Haha, there are many of those logic mistakes, but heck! The characters are so awesome, that I happily forgive any lack of logic

Yeah, this is what I wanted them to say, but one can't expect every character to say all the most logical things at the right time.  XD  I myself am only really any good at arguments when they're on the computer and I have time to figure out how to word.

Ikr?  And was it stricktly "legal" of him by fairy law to lock up the Sugar Plumb fairy?  I mean, I totally back him up on it because love potions are gross, but it looked like fairies didn't think that love potions were evil or anything...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WritterInTheArtHat In reply to HollyRoseBriar [2015-04-01 17:28:46 +0000 UTC]

I don't think he locked her up because he thought the potion was evil. I think it was out of spite because the potion didn't work for him and he got horribly heart broken. So heart broken that he didn't want anything else to do with love so he wanted the potion gone for good by locking up the person who can make it so nobody could use it ever again.

HollyRoseBriar In reply to WritterInTheArtHat [2015-04-01 18:20:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I do think that was his initial reason.  And maybe it still kept being a big reason.  But I got the impression that, at some point after it didnt' work for him and he didn't see love potions in a romantic light anymore, he gave it some honest, deep thought and came to the conclusion that the concept of a potion that makes someone all ga-ga for someone was gross.  'Cause he kept yelling at people/creatures under the influence of the love potion that what they were feeling "wasn't real".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WritterInTheArtHat In reply to HollyRoseBriar [2015-04-01 19:53:58 +0000 UTC]

That does sound likely. I mean he is a king and a king has got to have a level head about theses things. But even if he did give it some logical thinking, I still think his own heart break played a big part in it. That's why he wouldn't let Sugar Plum talked about that "Fateful Day" and why he and Marianne can relate to one another.

HollyRoseBriar In reply to WritterInTheArtHat [2015-04-02 00:38:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh, it definitely was.  You could see it on his face there that it was a big reason.  Probably part of him wishes the love potion had worked so he wouldn't have "had" to think about love potions so hard.

WritterInTheArtHat In reply to HollyRoseBriar [2015-04-02 09:28:00 +0000 UTC]

Also that makes me wonder, how did Sugar Plum know how to make the love potion? Was it taught to her or did she make her own recipe? And why doesn't she look like all the others fairies? You know, no wings, no legs and she's all glowy and stuff.
P.s. Have you ever noticed that Alan Cumming usually plays bad guys who later become good guys? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying it's there.

Those are all very good questions.  Is she, like, Aphrodite or a child of Aphrodite or something, making herself into a "fairy" in order to mingle with them?  Or was she an ordinary fairy originally and using magic made her like that?  Is she like an extreamly rare breed of fairy?
My favorite kind of bad guy!

WritterInTheArtHat In reply to HollyRoseBriar [2015-04-02 20:16:40 +0000 UTC]

I seemed to think the second one. Seems logical that magic would change her. All the other fairies can't use magic (that we know of) so I suppose it would make since that the only one that can use magic would stand out. Maybe it's a right of passage or something, becoming all bright and blue so she can do what she can do. Also why is she wearing a crown? Is she royalty or something or is that just decoration?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HollyRoseBriar In reply to WritterInTheArtHat [2015-04-02 22:33:57 +0000 UTC]

It could be that she is some kind of rare elemental, like a naiad.  But yeah, honestly, it's not inconcievable that using magic, as in you're storing it in your body, would change your apperance.  Obviously you can use magic without it getting inside you.  I mean, the Bog King used some kind of magic to capture her right?
I'm not sure.  It could be natural...  like the bog king's "crown".  It does seem awefully stylized to be natural, though.
I am betting that she wasn't royalty, or the fairy kingdom would have been in more of an uproar about the Bog King keeping her captive.  But magical people don't have to technically be "royal" to wear "royal" looking stuff.

You do have a point there. And I always wondered about that web cage Sugar Plum is kept in. I'm thinking either Bog or Griselda could have made it. They both dislike Plum for the same reason, because Bog got horribly heart broken and banned love all together. Perhaps that crystal in Bog's staff has something to do with it. It just sort of sticks out. Everything is all green and muddy in the forest and that yellow crystal is the only jewel I see. Maybe it has magical properties. That's just my theory
And maybe she's not royalty of the fairy kingdom we know. But I was merely suggesting she could be from a different kingdom. There has to be more then one, right?

HollyRoseBriar In reply to WritterInTheArtHat [2015-04-02 23:18:22 +0000 UTC]

If she's a naiad maybe it's just a simple web with all the strands positioned just so to keep her essence in there.  Mmm... nnnn... eh.  idk.  Seems more likely that it's a strait-up magic prison.  Maybe she is a genie.
I don't know if the jewel in the Bog King's staff is magic or not.  Whether it is or isn't, I always kind of saw it as his badge of office.  Like instead of wearing a crown he carries a jeweled staff.  It very well could be the thing he keeps to help keep the SPF locked up though.
That is true.  She could be a royal foreiner.  I kind of assumed that she was a hermit because I think that if she was royalty from anywhere, someone would have kicked up a fuss about her capture.  Unless she wasn't wanted in whatever kindom she's from for some reason.  Of course...  I guess there could have been a fuss kicked up over her that we hadn't heard of...

YES! That was the first thing I thought when I saw her in the trailer. Like Disney genie :3
I suppose you're right. I mean, if it is magic, he certainly never uses it. Not even with the fight with Marianne. Perhaps if there is a sequel (which I hope) they'll explain more about what Sugar Plum is.
But I can't help but wonder, what happened to Marianne's mother and Bog's father? And why do Marianne and Dawn look so different?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HollyRoseBriar In reply to WritterInTheArtHat [2015-04-03 00:03:10 +0000 UTC]

Genies can be "bottled".  That's a rule.
And "Puck", too.  Although I guess he doesn't need much of any explination...
Those are some good questions that I never thought to ask.  (about Marianne's mom and Bog's father)  I didn't know what the Queen looked like, or what the king's orignial haircolor was, and even if the King and Queen looked similar to each other, features CAN skip generations.
I'd like to know exactly how much time passed between Marianne's breakup with the Lout and the party where he decided he needed a love potion to get her back.  And if her personality change included the taste for adventure and swordplay or if she had always kind of wanted that, and the only big changes were she became a harder person, cynical of love and untrusting of people.  It seemed to me that not much time had passed at all, but I also got the impression that the breakup did indeed inspire her desire for adventure and swordplay.  But she's awfully good with a sword to have taken it up so soon...

WritterInTheArtHat In reply to HollyRoseBriar [2015-04-03 00:33:28 +0000 UTC]

I only question about the fairy queen because the fairy king appeared to have green eyes and Marianne has brown eyes and Dawn has blue. But maybe some features did skip a generation. So Bog must look exactly like his father because he doesn't look a thing like Griselda.
I'd liked to think it was somewhere between a couple of months to a year. In the song c'mon Marianne Roland says 'here I am on my knees again' suggesting he's had time to try and apologise a few times before already. Plus Marianne would have needed a long time to get as good at swordplay as she is to take on Bog. Other then that's it's just pure instinct and gut feeling that says months to a year.

I wish they'd changed Dawn's dress and both of their hair a little bit at least... it really looks like only a week passed at most...  Even if it's much more probable that months or a year passed.

Its a big pet peeve of mine... that characters never/hardly ever change their clothes.  Unless there's a reason for it like their on the run or they're wearing a uniform or a set of special magic clothes...
I mean, I get liking one set of clothes and all, but i would like at least a little variety.  Y'know?  Clothes'll wear out if you wear em to much.

It was strange hearing very "human" songs coming out of... fairies.   But not necisserily in a bad way.  A couple of the Bog King's songs annoyed me...  "I'M EVIIIIIIIL"  "I'VE BEEN DISRESPECTEEEEEEED"
