Ikarus 180 and Ikarus 620 side by side on Vintage Commercial Vehicle Meeting at Veresegyház, Hungary, Europe. The 180 (behind) was the first factory-built articulated model (designed by Laszlo Finta, production started in 1961). Only one sample preserved but it is in running conditions. The 620 is even elder, from 1955 (designed by Frigyes Szirotta). Its engine was located beside the driver. For those who travelled with them, the most remarkable features were the duvet that drivers used to cover the engine compartment for noise reduction (in vain), and the typical truck ramble of the 147HP Csepel D614 gasoline engine (licenced from Steyr). I was 4 or 5 when I travellled 620 for last time and have faint memories of The Bus (as I remembered them): the loud engine noise, the bench-like row of seats behind the driver's cabin, facing rearward, and the oily smell...
This example was literally rebuild from its corpse: it was used as a hen house. It has a special "buddy": an ÁMG 406 trailer that was precedessor of later articulated busses. BKV FAÜ (a bus maintenance workshop of the Budapest Public Transport company) experimented with articulated busses, too, and used 620 as a testbed, but as far as I know none remained.
