Description
The modern town center of Salgotarjan was built from the sixties to the eighties in the last century of the last millennium. The "communist" government wanted to build a modern, state-of-the-art-of-the-state town that could be an example to all both in Hungary and in the West. A fine group of young architects had the chance to create a complete city centre almost from the scratch. There were no strict rules to obey but a good kind of expectation. These young architects made something that was fresh and new and unexpected in the 60s and for much surprise most of their buildings aged well and kept their value. Now, over 50 years later these buildings (quite a few of them) are somewhat old, "youngtimers" would say a car or plane enthusiast. There is one architect who surpassed the others a bit, Geza Magyar. Both buildings on this image are his works: the almost brutalist double block of the Museum (1966) and the striped, wavy flow of concrete as the Town Hall (1974). The latter collected several international awards. These buildings were quite futuristic at the time they were built. Now, they are—well, the not-so-distant past.
Just the right thing to present with the old way of photography. Not that old, though… I shot this picture with my beautiful VDS 810 wooden field camera to 10×8" Fomapan 400 sheet film and the analog photo with the relatively long exposure time gave it a strange vintage look.
This was an interesting thing: I planned this photo for two or three months and then I took a trip just for this one shot. Okay, I did some more, too, but they were just toying around as if I was already there. This image was The Goal.
This image is scanned from a 10×8" contact print and barely edited (dust removal and straightening in Photoshop).
VDS 8×10" custom built field camera, Schneider-Kreutzach APO Symmar-S 240 f/5.6 MC lens and Fomapan 400 film negative
Paper negative was scanned with my cheapo CanoScan LiDE 220 and reversed, toned, cleaned-up in PS.
No pixel suffered harm or discomfort while I took this photo. This is my own work, please don't do any unlawful things to it like reblogging, sharing, lending, leasing, tearing up or claiming it. This picture is purely copyrighted. Infringing my rights will call for immediate legal action.
