Originally I was making this guy for a possible Hellraiser RP/Comic for the Hellbound Chronicles with ~BlackDove42 , but I haven't talked to her much as of late, and since I'm moving my Hellraiser fan cenobites over to the assimilated ranks of the Thanatora, I figure this guy had just as well be moved over as well. Yes, that IS his real head. Who ever said the supernatural had to be logical?
Baphomet was once a Fallen Angel and Pagan Fertility God who resided in Hell; However, when Samael returned from his "Journey of Enlightenment", he offered to have Baphomet assimilated and become his right-hand man in an effort to find souls worthy of assimilation. Needless to say, Baphomet eagerly accepted.
In NeverRealms, Baphomet is best known for attempting to tempt St. Francis of Assisi (of course failing miserably) and gathering/assimilating Gotzon Thodt. He is also known for locating the one who would become the Queen of the Thanatora.
Mutilations-wise, Baphomet's consist of a harpoon/fish hook implanted into each of his hands and metal 'tentacles' in his back. These tentacles can detach from his back completely and have a set of tiny blades attached to one end and a tiny power drill attached to the other. He can control these tentacles telekinetically and uses them to subdue and (on occasion) lobotomize others.
His head is even a weapon, with jaws powerful enough to squash a human skull as if it were a rotten watermelon. Mmmm...

That's one wicked s.o.b. It surprised me when I saw it for the first time. It has to be supernatural. But since you used Baphomet symbol as your icon, I thought we'd see him long ago. Kinda natural that you draw him. Probably not the one pagans know about.
Nice work. He could give nightmares to any who thin about him. Nah! He gives nightmares.

I meant Baphomet is traditionally imaged as a thin creature but in your version he is a sturdy fellow.

Ohhhh.I see. I noticed that. Baphomet is also portrayed as a hermaphrodite as well, but I decide to make mine ALLLL man. Thanks.

My nightmares have come true. Thank you! This a wonderfully vivid depiction of Baphomet. I love the way the tentacle ends in the flesh of his hip like a tick engorging itself on it's host. His skull is perfectly suited for his look and adds to his bestial demeanour. You've tapped into something raw and primal here which has a fearful beauty all of its own.

Yay! I'm glad you approve!
As you noticed, I decided to make him ALL male rather a hermaphrodite like the mythical version, and the of course the skull head is obvious. I thought is made him (as you put it) more bestial as well as more frightening, but still beautiful in its own grotesque way.
I've noticed some of my character designs have been looking a tad 'flat' lately so I'm trying to flesh them out a bit more and help them 'pop'. Thanks. I really do love your thoughtful comments. Your's are thoughtful without being too nit-picky.

You are most welcome. And, I am glad you can get something from my comments. I think you have to be careful when commenting on others work and treat it with respect. If a piece moves you in some way then it's good to express it but in a way that the artist can get something from it too. Another perspective.
Flat, you say. They do not come across that way as the colours and subject bring your attention into them, bringing them out of the canvas. But, if you feel they need some more dimension, try fiddling around with some different shadows and highlights, or moving the light source with filters.
You are on a roll at the moment and it's always exciting to see what you will come up with next.

Yes, respect is always good. I try to be respectful and well, nice when I comment on someone's work. Too bad I sometimes don't get the same treatment, which is just sad. I'm glad I have friends and awtchers who give me positive feedback for the most part though.
Well, I actually meant I need to improve the designs a bit more...I mean, black leather can only go so far when it comes to wardrobe.
I'm actually running low on new linework to colour currently. I need to draw MOAR!

LizzieLupine In reply to HotaruThodt [2010-06-23 09:28:46 +0000 UTC]
It is sad you do not get the same treatment but you've got some good friends to balance that out. Which gives you some decent fuel to go off and create more.
I do not know, it's always good to see black leather. But if you're looking for a change what about latex or PVC? I cannot imagine them in frilly lace and large flower prints.
I take it you like the process of colouring more than the drawing. Or is it that you get carried away with the colouring?

I agree. Hell, I was forced to block one guy because he was putting down one of my "Arkadi" pics after I left a posotive comment on one of his =alexiuss wallpaper retouches (which I wonder would count as art theft). Oh god, I only draw for me, people who commission me, and friends. I don't understand why people feel they should tear apart my character just because they don't understand it. ¬.¬
Well, I'm working on that, but I mean coming up with more imaginative outfits (even though I DO love S&M fashion) and just better character designs in general. I've been looking at some fighting game designs like Street Fighter, DarkStalkers, Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur for inspiration.
A little bit of both actally. It takes me a while to get inspired enough to work on lineart, then I have to scan and clean it up before I can colour.

This is what you should keep in mind, " only draw for me, people who commission me, and friends". The rest is not important. They are probably bored anyway. You do some great work and that all comes from you, your mind (your fingers and arms help too). Its a talent you have that no noone can take from you.
Those games are good source of inspiration. Had you thought about looking into comic art too. They are always good to get the juices flowing. Maybe try 'The Darkness', the style might just be what you are looking for.
It sounds like more work getting art ready to go online. You must have a lot of patience to see it through however, the result is fabulous. Possibly a silly question ; Do you use a tablet and pen when you clean it up your work?

HotaruThodt In reply to LizzieLupine [2010-06-24 10:01:36 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. Although some of those comments have been discouraging and make me not even want to draw poor Arkadi anymore. Luckily, my online RP with *screamin-jazzy has encouraged me to work on a new Arkadi pic...with more to follow of course.
Yes, I do look at comics. Way back when I was a big Chaos! Comics fan. Lady Death was awesome before Chaos! filed for bankruptcy. ^.^;
And nope. I only use a mouse. I can't afford a pen or tablet. ^.^;

LizzieLupine In reply to HotaruThodt [2010-06-25 09:03:47 +0000 UTC]
That is great you have someone who can lift you up and keep you inspired. That is a great way to keep Arkadi alive, by roleplaying. You can explore the character more by playing it. It'll be great to see what you come up with in the future.
It's a shame when comics run out of cash and a series has to end. You never know though someone might take it up again from a different company.
Wow! I am completely gobsmacked now. Only a mouse! That is a skill.
Aren't they expensive. I was looking in to getting one before I left Japan but nearly fell over at the price. Mind you, it does stop me wanting one. Just to play with for a bit.

Exactly. RP is good for story and character development. Plus Jazz is kind of my consultant for NeverRealms. If I come up with a stupid idea, she tells me. Plus she's letting me use some of her characters in the story.
Well, someone else bought Chaos! Comics, but Brian Pulido (the original owner) took Lady Death with him, so there's kind of a big hole in the new stories. Lady Death also has her own new stories and whatnot.

It good to have someone there who can give you some constructive support when story telling.I know, that something that may sound good to us may be completely ridiculous to someone else or just be unworkable. I recall some of the games I've been involved in have gone off on a merry dance.
It's a shame they did not pick up on the story where it left off. Maybe you could fill in the gaps for them. Is it as good though? Do you still read it?

I agree. jazz has helped me muchly when it comes to developing the NeverRealms...plus she's letting me use a few of her characters for it.
Nah I don't read it. I mean they kind of closed it with Armageddon. but then the Chaos! Cosmos was recreated or some weird stuff. Chaos! filed for bankruptcy becausr they bought so many licenseses to make comics based on the wrestlers of the then WWF (along with bands like ICP) that they lost alot of money. ^.^;

What a great interpretation of him. I always thought Baphomet was a fascinating part of the Nightbreed mythos, personally, though I didn't much care for the design they gave him for the movie/comics.

My Baphomet is more based on the hermaphrodite mythological version that later became a Satanic Symbol. No Nightbreed here. Thank you though. I'm surprised no one had brought up the Nightbreed earlier.
