I'm entering this (As well as "All Souls Night") into =missimoinsane 's "Scare Me" contest.

It's old character revival time, and this time I've brought back a character I made back in...1996 I think it was. I was reading Book of Revelations (i.e., scary Bible shizzle) and Chapter Nine, Verse 11 really struck a proverbial cord with me. I thought "That would make one awesome villain and enemy of Hell." And so, Abaddon (Apollyon in Greek) the Destroyer and Lord of Locusts was created. Back in those days, I was using reference even more than I do now, and so he was rendered in the likeness of one Mr. Marilyn Manson. I also gave him Mr. Happy-Face (a previous attempt to make a mascot for the then Unforgiven Stories) to wear (then as a necklace)...and I honestly don't know why I did that.

Now in his revival...he just looks like Vocal from Violinist of Hameln (excellent manga BTW) with his large ear-wings (yes those are his ears) which were inspired by art I saw from John Milton's Paradise Lost and red patent leather outfit (made form human skin. No cows in Hell died to make his clothes). Also like Vocal, Abaddon rebelled against the king of the demons (Satan in my story), but found himself bound and imprisoned. Of course Abaddon's prison is in The Bottomless Pit, where he is not only weighed down with heavy chains, spells and talismans, but he is also surrounded by powerful Hellion monks who keep him bound by their sheer willpower. At least he has his fellow Locusts to keep him company, although despite this he has gone stark-raving mad in his incarceration. His Locusts swarm the pit, eagerly awaiting the day they as well as their Master will be released...

I emphasized his locust summoning abilities more in his redesign then his 1996 counterpart ever had. The locusts can be seen not only jumping past their Lord, but they can seen seen in black clouds floating around the half-eaten cityscape in the background. He's still wearing Mr. Happy-Face too, but as a belt buckle now. Whether Mr. Happy-Face is sentient or not is anyone's guess really. Hell, Abaddon's crazy, so he probably THINKS Mr. happy Face is talking to him.

I'm not sure where the original cityscape used in the background came from. It was given to me by *dantea-demon . I just blew it up, carefully trace/painted over it on a separate layer, deleted the original background, added a sky from ~knightfall-stock , used some brushes by *concept-on-mac , then applied several filters and a "Dreamy Blur" as well as a "Motion Blur" to the entire pic.

Vulgar Display of Power: Pointing a single finger at his opponent, Abaddon growls "Edo edi essum." A swarm of Locust's then flies in, swarming and then landing on their target, buzzing and munching nosily before flying away. They leave behind a bloody skeleton, which staggers a moment and falls to the ground (Note: This move will not work on Arkadi De Infernali-Rofocale).

Extra Information:

† While Abaddon's Locusts currently appear mostly normal (larger size, grey skin and glowing violet eyes aside), it has been theorized by Lord Bael that, should Abaddon recover the Apocrypha Sword, the Locusts will gain the appearance and power they are prophesied to have in the Book of Revelation (the faces of men, the tails of scorpions).

† Abaddon's greatest dream is to murder the entire Royal Family of Hell (just the Lucifer branch) and devour their entrails.
