Description
My beloved 5D is on it's way to cameratek 2000km away for a $200 service because I had to clone out about 30 dust spots from this shot5D

One of the best images iยดve seen lately Hougaard.
That diagonal line produced by the wave from the bottom right to the sun works wonders, very simple, but beautifuly done.
Lighting is amazing to.
Cheers.

Thanks Ricky It's always the experienced opinions I look for. I love this piece, but DA not so much.

There are some great landscape photographers here in DA, but this site is becoming more a teenager site with point and shot cameras than a serious photo share place.
Again, great image mate.

Wonderful shot. At first, I didn't even think it was water. It looks like mist or dry ice that hasn't quite drifted away yet.

This is so beautiful, and incredibly intricate. It's so hard to believe that this wasn't designed to look this way, but that this is the way that things just are.

how come you are willing to put that much money into your 5D if you are just going to get the 5dmkII?

because I'll be visiting some amazing places this holiday and I don't want 30 dust spots on each photo

Well done again. Make sure the camera is off when changing lenses as that attracts more dust (something I forget to do regularly). I blow my sensor every now and then but in theory you could clean the sensor yourself. Lots on the web on how to do that. Just have to be calm about doing it. I think for this shot, although you were going for more of a 'view' I would have liked to have been closer to the rock front left and make that more dominant. Love the ss here

Lovely shot again...but I think I preferred the first shot from the 3 you've submitted from this shoot.
I heard about the 5D being a bit of a dust box, the D3 is the same...I think it's a full frame thing. I'm sure sensor cleaning helps a bit, but once the dust is in there, it's in there.
With my D3, basically I've got into the habit of blowing the sensor with a blower brush every time I change lens. I've also go an Arctic Butterfly, which really helps...it's certainly cheaper than taking it to Nikon every time it needs a clean.
I'm way past 1000 shots on the D3 now (still no landscapes, at the moment it's paying for itself in a much more boring way) and I've had to clean the sensor twice...but only had to re-charge the battery once.

yip but this service is necesary I think. I purchased it from a 50 something engineer who took less than 7000 shots with it in 2 years, so the dust is really really really stubborn. He wasn't even aware of it but probably always used a very big aperture.
for the $200 they take it apart, clean everything, replace certain parts ( I know the ULP filter and some shutter actuator ), and then it has a 6 month functioning gaurantee. Insured overnight courier alone was $30

I have been using the 5D for 2 years now and have only used the rocket blower and the static bursh and no other cleaning was necessary. I have heard people complain about but I have had no problems and I change lenses quite often.

Outstanding image as always!!! hate to hear about the 5D, I recently purchased a product called Dust Aid [link] used it once, cleaned all the spots from my sensor... made me a believer. Don't know if it would help your particular problem but it might be worth a look

Very nice shot Hougaard, very nicely composed and some stunning light. I wish we had more sunsets like you seem to get over here!

I hate you man, every time I think I have an awesome photo to upload you come and make mine look like shit. The light in this shot is amazing and I love the top of the sun showing above the horizon, do you do this full time?

When I saw the title, I was like: 'Desktop Sunset, Sweet!' But no wallpaper today...
Lovely image though, I love how 'thin' the water looks.
