Description
The deviants who have been watching me from the very beginning might remember this guy. I shot most of my first sunsets here as it's close to home and an awesome location. The weather on this occasion was great but the surf was massive and I had to stand on a concrete structure to stay out of it. I wish I could have gotten closer.

Wow, this picture s amazing!
I love how the sky looks; you captured it at just the right time ^^
The contrast between the sharpness of the fence, to the sea and the sky looks beautiful
I'm guessing this is the same fence as in your avatar?

What's the fence all about? Such a contrast to the freedom of the ocean...
What can't be trespassed?

It's a bird study area behind the fence if I'm not mistaken...

What do you think about the color cast of the big stopper. Even though it's not magenta some people say it's blueish.
As to vignetting, I found no difference between the hoya nd400 and my hitech 10 stop nd filter.
By the way, absolutely amazing photo.

Thanks Jose
There is a definite blue cast, but it's much easier to correct than magenta. The vignette is very strange. It only shows up in some images. I will do a proper review on my blog some time.

I also get extremely variable results with vignetting. They do obviously depend on the length of exposure, as well as on the kind of incident light.
I will probably buy one, but it's a shame that we only have two kinds of 10 stop square filters - one with an extremely strong magenta cast, and another one with a blue cast.
Still, I think I'll prefer the hitech one, as it usually enhances sunsets and post-sunsets in a magnificent way, as long as the cast is corrected in post-processing. Another great trick is to tweak the white balance in camera, as different settings will yeld extremely different tones. I know that RAW isn't affected by the white balance choice, but this way you can estimate on the field how the colors will look, and how much you can edit them.
Cheers

why does everybody talk about the big stopper currently? Strong NDs with 9 or 10 stops have been around for years... i don't get it?

It's not made by Lee, it's made by a third party and Lee sells it under their name. I have heard so much about this filter, that I really want to try it now.
