Description A Golden Eagle on watch for any movement below. Golden Eagles are a sight to behold. Huge birds that can bring down even small deer. They are the Apex of their food chain. Feathers replacing scales in these dinosaurs of the skies. Raptors are frightening creatures if you could only imagine them at a slightly larger scale. They could easily take down a man ... Even the Golden Eagles of today could if they really so wished. I wouldn't want to mistakenly end up near an eagle's nest if they were around.

Ahhhh I've had several requests asking if I had a reference for this. I found the eagle after searching a while ... See > [link] The branch is from a photo as well, but has been modified alot to appear more fitting for the drawing.

and to add to my comment above, i think the eagle is one of the most magestic and sometimes misunderstood animal in the world... it sits on its perch and its look holds all the wisdom we would ever need in a single glance... i love it, thankyou for sharing it with us

Beautiful image. The detail in the wings is very well done. Especially with all the tattered ends and ruffled areas. The beak and head are nicely done and well proportioned to the rest of the body. Kudos!

i'm sure you've been asked this a zillion times, but is that in PENCIL???
well whatever it's in its very beautiful

HOULY1970 In reply to Phoxeh [2005-03-29 15:30:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Jessica,

Yes it's in pencil ... I have tried many kinds and grades over the years ... All I use these days is a 6b woodless graphite pencil ... or rather many of them. I'll tranfer my sketch onto the paper with a harder pencil and graphite transfer paper. Then do the rest with my pile of softer 6B pencils.

one of these birds happens to have a nest behind my house in washington. it comes by every day and lands in the trees in our back yard. its a really beautiful bird. i want to leave it fish and stuff but i know i should let it do everything on its own.

sigh. what a great drawing though.

-gasps- wow...I absolutally love it, the wings and feathers are absolutally amazing. Though to me the head looks just a tad bit small...but that does not scrub on the fact that this is an amazing picture....GOOD job ^^

HOULY1970 In reply to E-k-o [2005-03-29 19:37:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Ashley,

The head looks small because of the perspective of the Drawing ... also it's a winter scene although it cannot be told by my drawing.

Birds lift their feathers up some to better keep warm. It makes the body look a bit out of skew with the head.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it though
