Description
A Golden Eagle on watch for any movement below. Golden Eagles are a sight to behold. Huge birds that can bring down even small deer. They are the Apex of their food chain. Feathers replacing scales in these dinosaurs of the skies. Raptors are frightening creatures if you could only imagine them at a slightly larger scale. They could easily take down a man ... Even the Golden Eagles of today could if they really so wished. I wouldn't want to mistakenly end up near an eagle's nest if they were around.Ahhhh I've had several requests asking if I had a reference for this. I found the eagle after searching a while ... See > [link] The branch is from a photo as well, but has been modified alot to appear more fitting for the drawing.

I know it's not very original ... nor did I ever expect it to be a daily deviation. It was just something to do to get me back in a drawing mood.
I checked out your gallery. I like your surreal pencil work, but I must confess that I don't really relate to the fractal art. First I've never looked into how it's done so I'm not sure if it's hard to do or not. Making it hard for me to judge it there's any skill required to it or if it's more of a play of patterns to create a pleasing texture ? Feel free to enlighten me if you have the time or desire ... I'm interested to know.

when i re-read my comment i wondered what i was thinking. i appologize for my bluntness. your drawing is fine.
fractals are a distraction for me. like a video game that i can use to be creative. i play aroound with it when i have artist's block. it is quite enjoyable to use and the program is free. apophysis there are some tutorials and a good walkthrough on the site and also lots of info if you go to the *Apophysis club. i try to create different or unlikely fractals when i work in that medium.
once again i am sorry and should have directed my comment toward the person who selected the piece. you are a fellow pencil artist, and have my respect.

I agree that it was a very static image, but I'm still happy for the attention. Besides once the DD drew people in they saw the rest of my stuff, so it was all cool.
I noticed some of your fractals are pretty different from the standard run of the mill stuff. The trouble is that I see so much of the stuff that looks the same ... like it's hard to manipulate it into something totally broken away from the norm. Thanks for explaining it to me.

I love the shading! I've always loved birds of prey, they're just so majestic.
I like it's expression, like it's looking over territory, but without a mean, evil stare, more like a protective one, or it's just me.
I like the way the feathers are placed as well.
All in all, brilliant.

believe it or not, the description for the DD was going to be my comment. i was going to say something like "you really captured the nobility of the eagle very well, and it stood out for me.", but now, as the DD description already has that, i'll just add this to my favourites.

Lovely work, love the fine detail aswell ^^ but your description of how you view the creature is what drew my attention most and not to kiss your butt or anything but I agree. Living in Alaska has given me the pleasure of actually seeing a Golden Eagle in person, and this picture is just like a reminder of the image ^^
