Charcoal???

This is a good piece.

Good use of the grain of the paper vs the medium used.

Nope not Charcoal .... It's all done with 6b woodless graphite pencils.

Yeah I like textured paper, and I had a ref for the eagle ... The branch I just made to fit how I wanted it to look. The eagle was orginally sitting on a postlike stump, and wasn't showing as much feather definition. I'll try to find a link to it on the web.

By the way ... nice Gallery. Some of your photos remind me to make a visit to the city soon.

I just started to use charcoal (see my latest submition)... this is why i was kinda impressed by your work. But i'm still impressed, even if 6b .

I don't like using charcoal myself ... I find it way too loose and messy ... but that's just me.

I live down on the Vermont border ... in a small town called Stanstead. You take the 10 south then the 55 until you hit the border. It's an hour and a half to the city.

I saw your Gamesworkshop club link .... I used to draw a lot of Wahammer art years ago ... and was just contemplating doing some more .... I may do a big plague marine piece .... I'd love to freelance for their codexes and such.

Yeh, that would be cool to see, definately. I'm not too sure what GW's policy on freelance artwork is now - I'm not sure they look further than their own art studio these days. I wish you well with it though.

that's absolutely gorgeous. I've never seen a golden eagle... seen some smaller birds of prey, but you really did it justice from everything I've seen via the discovery channel and different magazines.

They seem to have a commanding aura around them, its no wonder that so many cultures saw them as animals of power and leadership.

absolutely amazing. you have captured this amazing creature beautifully, and perfect. and i can definately say that, being a lover of birds of prey ^^ the pose, the look in his eye, the smoothness of the feathers, the shading in the background...it all flows together to add an amazing feel to this. the detail is priceless...
i'd die to see you do a red tailed hawk

This is wonderful. It's so hard to get feathers that accurate and precise, and you have the golden eagle's proportions and feel perfectly. You do convey his power and drama, nice turn of phrase too -- dinosaur of the skies. Wonderful. Please, do more nature art! Whether it's more raptors or other animals, I'd love to see it!

Thanks Robert ..... I find that Raptors look more like dinosaurs that a lot of lizards do.

As for more nature art ... no prob .... I want to do a pair of Ravens, maybe a couple wolf ones and I had a request for a redtailed hawk.

Yep.

I read a lot on paleontology and it seems raptors are much closer relatives of dinosaurs than lizards are -- that birds are the surviving branch of the clan. They are so beautiful and elegant!
