"All myths contain some portion of truth, even if it is a sliver. Growing up in a town that seemed to have a myth surrounding everything from ghost drivers to unlocking the psychic ability to becoming your deepest desire. A lot was chalked up as old wives' tales passed through the generations as ways to keep the town interesting and the tourists coming in. It was a weird tourism feed, but the outsiders paid for goods and services, thus boosting the local economy, so the locals were willing to continue the myths.

One that intrigued a lost high school senior was the tale of the spring, which showed your deepest desire. Von didn’t know what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, and he thought he could figure it all out by embracing and testing the myth. The myth was quite specific compared to the others. The user must have no body hair when they enter the spring to represent full access to their body. They must stay in the water for five minutes by counting out loud. Finally, it must be done on a day when the winds come from the northwest and the temperature is 72 degrees, no more or less.

For months, Von worked on finding the perfect day, and when it arrived, he took the plunge and came out a new man or, in his case, a woman. When Von disembarked from the spring, he was more feminine in figure with no pain during his transformation. Von had all the bells and whistles of his new female body, and for the first time in months, Von didn’t feel the stress of the future. Rather, he felt happy, suffice with his current state. Dressing in new clothes, he hugged a nearby tree and couldn’t stop thinking about where this new desire would guide him."
