This is me whenever I'm using a tablet XD I have a tendency to rotate my sketchbook to get a better angle and when I try to draw on the tablet, I keep rotating it and be like, "Why is this not working?" and then I realize "Oh yeah, this is not the same thing". I feel like such a tard lol

When I draw half the time I look like I've been swimming in liquid charcoal. Β

To be honest, I'm used to sitting like that since I sit like that during lunch to talk to my friend. And getting your hand dirty, happens to me all the time. (Don't really care if I'm dirty or not)

As someone who just took two semesters of drawing, I can tell you exactly what those chairs are. Torture devices sent directly from Satan himself to cause young artists pain while their instructor laughs maniacally at complaints and calls it a rite of passage. At least that was my experience.

i remember when i took an art class... for the love of heavenly rama, i knew more than my teacher... in fact, he got surprised when i made a whole drawing with perspective, shading and light effects using only a blue pen.
mom was an artist apart from everything else... so i guess that ran on the family.
kudos on trying hard... it's even harder when you are so used to digital art when some of us started with regular and sometimes irregular ways of doing art... i think i made more drawings with a pen than a pencil.

I remember I took a drawing class years ago in like eigth grade, thinking we were going to learn about perspectives and various composition techniques.
It was all charcoal drawing... All of it.
What a waste of time. Probably the least useful manner of making a picture after macaroni-pictures. Especially since tablets are so cheap.

Swipe to the left! That could work, maybe... It works with my iPad!

I love charcoal. Very easy to get it all over things, but it blends oh-so-smoothly.

It's probably a good thing you're not drawing with charcoal (far more messy than pencil). I took up drawing first and then digital (with a mouse, since I don't have the money for a tablet), but still doing both and I'm still trying to get used to some of the features on GIMP.Β I don't believe I saw that kind of chair before, but the back pain with that posture, I can relate.Β Hang in there!

OMG- how true and relatable. After adjusting to digital art, drawing on paper feels weird. I find myself wishing for "ctrl z" every time! lol

we worked that way in the basic drawing curses... just that there weren't enough of those seats for everyone... Β they are actually more comfortable than drawing standing in front of an easel!!!!! (for 4 hours straight is really tiring)Β

You will find a job! You're AWESOME *stars everywhere* You're comics are funny! You make my laugh! Also! The eraser in art class is invisible *whispers* so you have to find it within yourself...

These are the exact feelings I had about my first art class in college
I cannot stand those chairs; I wish art classes had seats that provided better back support for their students
Sorry to hear that you're really busy and missing making comics Hope you'll be able to have more free time to do what you want to do soon
I also hope that your experience with the drawing class gets better and less difficult for you as time goes on! You can do it!

xD Now you know the real struggle. I HATE those chairs! I don't know who thought they were a good idea. But I'd like to sit their ass down in one of those and tell THEM to draw for three hours straight. See how brilliant they feel then.

I had this one girl in class that was working with oil based paint, the paint was everywhere! xD
In her hair, face, hands, sleeves and of course the table! I helped her a bit to clean everything

Forgot to mention this on Tumblr. Don't be afraid to erase. The eraser is less a delete key and more of an effect tool, if anything. Other than that, a lot of the knowledge you have from drawing/painting on the computer can translate to traditional mediums. The trick is having to increase your arm stroke on a large piece of paper, which just requires a lot of practice.
Other than thaaaaaaat, good luck, and welcome to the club.
Big sticks of #2 Graphite are the bomb.

That arm stroke thing always gets me! I'm so use to covering space using just my wrist on my tablet D:

Hyperion1997 [2015-02-20 07:57:26 +0000 UTC]
I got my hands really dirty at first too! Some days I'd just have graphite all over the sides of my hands. What I learned is when you draw a line, you position your hand so it never touches what you've already drawn. If there aren't any blank spots I keep my hand hovering a couple centimeters above my art. Because smudges RUIN EVERYTHING. Especially if your working with black paper and a white pencil. The work involved in drawing a realistic jaguar head with those is just... ugh. But I had fun too!
Anyhoo, nice comic and happy drawing!

Basically is better than nothing at all! If you want to be good at piano you'll probably have the sell your soul, I swear it takes some serious dark magic to play Flight of the Bumblebee on the piano.
