HA HA! Because I totally NEED another character!Anyway, here's my second ~Nu-Hybrid character. She's actually been in the works for a while, but I recently changed her hairstyle, skin color, homeworld, and backstory. And possibly spelling of her name. But I like her. XD
...Okay the backstory was really hard to write, so it might be a little ridiculous, buuuuut you know what, if I decide to later, I can come back and tweak it. YEAH, MY CHARACTER, I CAN DO THAT.
(ALSO, she is totally from the GAMECUBE VERSION of Twilight Princess!Hyrule. Because THE GAMECUBE ONE IS CANON. So that's why the desert and the lake are in the west, not the east, you silly Wii-players.)
Anyway, enjoy.
Name: Marrilyn
Home World: Hyrule (Kakariko Village)
Initial Rank: F1
Back Story: Marrilyn grew up in Kakariko Village, restless all the while. There were few people who passed through the town, but those that visited talked about the rest of Hyrule, and it sounded far more interesting than her boring little hometown. So one day, shortly after turning 17, she picked up her father's sword and set out before her family could say anything else.
She was not out in the world long before she realized that her father's sword was going to be more useful than she initially expected. Hyrule was teeming with creatures--living skeletons, flying plants, malicious octopi, and worst of all, the strange black figures that haunted the shadows--and all of these seemed to want to maim, kill, and possibly eat any travelers passing along the roads. Fortunately, Marrilyn picked up swordplay relatively quickly, and she found herself swinging her father's unwieldy sword with more and more ease as she grew older.
By the time she was 20, she had found a place to settle down, so to speak. The western part of Hyrule had always interested her. Lake Hylia was beautiful (though she hardly ever told anyone she thought so), and the desert beyond it was just mysterious and dangerous enough for her liking. She decided she would stay in the desert as much as she could--Heartless seemed to like it there, a fact she attributed to the Arbiter's Grounds that she had long since decided not to disturb, and she had taken a liking to fighting. It was something she seemed to excel at, and for a young woman whose talents were limited to glaring and being brutally honest, a more useful talent appealed to her. On top of that, there were almost no people in the desert, and the more time she spent around people, the more she found herself disliking them.
Occasionally, she would return to Lake Hylia to buy supplies and catch up with the handful of people she could stand speaking to, and sometimes they would have requests for her--usually things such as finding out why supplies to the lake had been halted, scouting up-river to see if the residents there were doing alright, things that were best suited for someone who could actually survive the trip. But the majority of her time was spent in the desert, hacking and slashing heartless, goblins, and whatever other creatures decided to disturb her.
One day, as she was resting in the shade of one of the many broken stone walls, she heard a peculiar noise and craned her head around to see what caused it. What she saw was two people, a black-haired and a strawberry blonde woman, stepping out from what seemed to be some kind of swirling portal of darkness. It was unlike anything Marrilyn had seen before--she had seen the strange glyphs appearing in the skies of Hyrule (though she had no idea what they were) and the twilight shadows that followed them, but this was something decidedly different. The man and woman seemed to be discussing something, and after a moment, the man began heading eagerly to the Arbiter's Grounds. The woman followed him slowly. She could not place why, but the woman seemed heavy--as though something were weighting her down. Marrilyn ducked down behind the wall again, but peered around the other side to watch the pair as they headed away. There was something peculiar about them, but she could not place what it was.
She waited for hours, but they never came out of the . However, the figures never left her mind. She was suspicious of the strange dark portal from which they had emerged--it reminded her distinctly of those the Heartless used, and though she was not sure it was possible, she wondered if they might be some kind of humanoid Heartless.
It was several weeks before she saw a portal open again, and when the strawberry blonde woman stepped out into the desert again, Marrilyn leapt over the short wall she had been hiding behind and strode toward her, sword unsheathed.
“Who are you?” she demanded. “Are you some kind of Heartless?” She stopped several paces from the woman, who simply stared coolly back at her.
“I am no Heartless,” she responded simply. Despite the blowing sand around them and the unrelenting sun, the woman did not seem to be even ruffled.
“You use portals just like those creatures!” Marrilyn countered.
The woman did not react at all. Instead, she turned away and began walking in the opposite direction, toward the Arbiter's Grounds. “It is none of your concern,” she answered over her shoulder. But that was not good enough for Marrilyn.
She charged the woman, raising the sword above her head. “I'm not finished with you y--” Before she could complete her statement, the woman stopped, swiveled sharply, and practically slammed her foot into the sand. As she did so, the earth beneath them shook. It shook Marrilyn so hard that she toppled backwards, dropping her sword. She looked up as the tremors began to cease and the woman had already turned and was disappearing into a new portal. Marrilyn got up as fast as she could and ran after her, but the swirling darkness disappeared before she could reach it. She let out a frustrated yell. She had created that earthquake! She was some kind of Heartless, she was certain of it. But how could she maintain a human form? She realized she knew very little of these creatures.
She decided it was high time she did some research. She set off across Hyrule to find out what she could about the Heartless. This was no easy task. Most people knew little to nothing about the creatures, and not a single person had ever heard of a humanoid Heartless. It was not until she reached Hyrule Castle Town that she found a scholar who had done any sort of research on the Heartless. She hunted him down and demanded he tell her everything he knew, which he did with surprising zeal. He told her of how they were formed from the darkness in people's hearts, of how they traveled through portals of darkness, how there were many different kinds. He told her he had never heard of a humanoid Heartless, but he wondered if it was indeed possible. He also told her of another creature that traversed the paths of darkness, the Nobodies--creatures formed from strong-willed people whose hearts were taken. The empty bodies left behind were known as Nobodies, and the scholar had heard rumors of Nobodies who, being particularly strong in will, had kept their human forms. He knew no more than that, however.
It did not take Marrilyn long to decide that the Nobodies were just as worthy of being eradicated as the Heartless. Whatever it was the Heartless or Nobodies were trying to do to the world, it did not feel right to her. She vowed to destroy them when she came across them--strange portals of darkness or earthquake powers regardless.
As she traveled the roads of Hyrule, she occasionally spotted people appearing from these portals. Usually they disappeared into the wilderness too quickly to be caught, or they entered a town before she could confront them, but she took note of who she saw. Some did indeed seem to be some kind of superpowered beings--she witnessed them using strange powers (not just earthquakes) in various, sometimes unrecognizable ways. Others, however, simply seemed to be people who were travelling. She began to wonder if normal humans, too, could use these paths of darkness. It took her several days to create one, but eventually Marrilyn could summon a dark portal to...well, somewhere. She had no idea where it would lead. But fearless as she usually was, she stepped inside and followed the short path within to...
She had no idea where she was. It did not look like Hyrule any longer. In fact she realized she may be in another world entirely. The scholar had spoken of the possibility of other worlds in which the Heartless and Nobodies might dwell, and considering how different this place was, Marrilyn could only assume she had stumbled upon one.
Over the next few weeks, she began exploring this world and that, opening portals without really knowing where she was going, and taking a few days to wander around the worlds, finding out what she could. It was not terribly long before she stumbled upon a world in which there was a town called Market Chipping, nor was it terribly long before she heard about a group that might interest one who deals with Heartless and Nobodies. She found Nu Hybrid before long.
No, it was not a group dedicated to vanquishing these bizarre creatures (she soon learned that the group dedicated to that was filled with “keybladers”, a concept explained to her as " people to whom the Light granted powers to defeat the Heartless and Nobodies "). It was a criminal organization that acted as a neutral group between these "keybladers" and a powerful group of Nobodies--who sounded suspiciously like those she observed appearing from portals in Hyrule. No, it was not a place where she could hunt down those she sought to destroy, but she was a restless soul, and she figured she could lend her strength to this group. Perhaps, she thought, she could learn about her place in this strange fight between Light and Darkness. Perhaps she would be able to continue fighting Heartless and Nobodies, a pastime she enjoyed so very much. Perhaps she could find that strawberry-blonde woman again--and this time, her earthquake tricks wouldn't fool Marrilyn.
(Personality: Marrilyn, as one may assume, is not a terribly personable individual. She tends to be coarse, rude, tactless, and brutally honest. She is not fond of most people and instead keeps to herself as much as she can. She rarely smiles, even when she finds something amusing, and what she finds amusing is usually some form of schadenfreude. She enjoys fighting, but when it comes to missions, she will do it as efficiently as possible, more out of habit than anything else. That being said, she is far more skilled with a sword than she is with a gun, so if she is in a place in which she must use a firearm, she is more likely to hit things with it than shoot it. Her aim is admittedly pretty terrible.)
(Note: Because of her complexion and her hair color, many denizens of Hyrule seem to think she is somehow descended from the Gerudo. She insists that she is not, and it is simply a coincidence that her hair is red alongside her skin, which has been darkened from being out in the desert sun, but people continue to assume she is at least some part Gerudo. The skin-darkening effect of traveling the paths of darkness has only made this problem worse.)

I can't decide if I'd want to live in Zora's Domain or Gerudo Valley/Mesa. It's a tough decision.
