Personality: Gruff and unpersonable, Marrilyn could be considered difficult to like. Generally, she's short tempered, blunt, defensive, and quick to jump to a fight if she feels threatened. However, her recent determination to be a good student has tied her hands somewhat. There was a time she would have leapt at the opportunity to slug it out with someone over a petty thing, but now she feels the need to grit her teeth and deal with it, or at least restrict herself to a verbal argument (though all bets are off away from campus or supervision). As such, she clashes easily with people who are critical or treat her with derision. She's also gotten more appreciative of people who are nicer--though they still make her a bit uncomfortable, as she feels like she needs to tiptoe around them to avoid being offputtingly harsh, she appreciates it when people are, y'know, decent human beings (or whatever race they might be).
Brief Bio: Marrilyn and her brother grew up in a single parent home. Their father, a knight, died in an accident when they were young, leaving their mother to raise them on her own. Furious at what she viewed as a careless death caused by a foolish man, their mother took a very negative view of the academy, and she often steered her children toward more "practical" pursuits, in line with her own. However, Marrilyn idolized her father and saw him as a hero, unafraid to do his duty as a knight. She became a rebellious young thing with a penchant for sneaking off to snap pictographs and get in tussles with local punks (she played this off as heroic, but she was an instigator nearly half the time). When she was old enough to start ignoring her mother's protests, she ran off to become a knight. However, she underestimated the requirements of a student at the academy. Though she excelled at training, she was an extremely poor student who rarely did her due diligence in studies and spent most of her time slacking off or arguing. Eventually she was "encouraged" to take time off from the academy until she could get her head on straight.
Disheartened and sullen, she returned home to a mother who was both extremely displeased and prone to voicing her disappointment. Marrilyn spent the new few years floating around, unhappily working for her mother and resuming her bad habit of picking fights when she could slip away. But after so long, stuck in a job she hated and hearing her mother speak ill of the father she had tried to emulate, she finally decided enough was enough. She packed up her things and obstinately headed back to the academy. This time, she was going to get it right.
OTHER NOTES:
- Marrilyn isn't a GREAT student, even with her determination, and she struggles a lot with assignments that aren't "go out and do something active". She could stand to get a tutor, honestly.
- Her one consistent passion is photography, and she prides herself in a small collection of very nice pictographs she's taken. It may be the one thing she understands on a technical level, as it's the one thing she's bothered putting effort into. What a strange correlation.
- She cut her own hair. Yes, she knows it looks that way. No, you shouldn't point it out.
Holy god the girl made it to freshman. Will wonders never cease?
