Description Was going to hold off on this one until I had it colored, but I kept pushing that back, so I figured "screw it."

This image is born of GamePro's review of Mega Man X2, where they top off their description of the game's crisis with "...the Mavericks have captured Mega Man X's old robocanine friend, Zero, who's the perfect bait for a Mega Man trap."

The idea came to me around the time the ill-fated MegaMan Universe was announced. One of my message board buddies mentioned something about the game addressing "U.S. continuity", I asked what that involves other than a name swap, and was treated to a link listing about every misconception, instruction manual inconsistency, rework, and licensed derivative to ever appear in this hemisphere.

Now, one may have varying views on how valid any of that stuff is, but I think we all have to agree that the line needs to be drawn somewhere. Hence, this image. I certainly won't deny that these are fun avenues to explore, but I sincerely doubt that the most infamous of drunken escapades from Capcom would ever result in picking them up again. ...then again, before ZX Advent, we probably all said the same thing about MM1's box cover.

I may yet revisit this image once I get a more competent computer. Waiting for some benefits at work to kick in before I fork over the money.

Zero and Iris copyrighted by Capcom.

Let's not forget Y and Z, from the Nintendo Power coverage of MMX1.

As silly as this looks, I can't pass this up! Zero does remind me of Rush though I think he's based on Protoman or Bass. I do think X and Zero are the Mega Man and Rush of the X world.

Pffffft. XD

(As much as I love the various oddities in the US side of things, I'm honestly not sure where Zero-dog came from. Most likely, it was just a Nightmare Before Christmas-related joke...but IIRC it wasn't limited to Gamepro, so if it wasn't a joke, then I have no idea who they thought the real Zero [or Rush] was supposed to be)

No, it wasn't limited to Gamepro. The joke reappeared many years later thanks to NubyTech, when they released their Mega Man X controller for the Gamecube. The ad for it features several text quotes from other Mega Man characters, including:

"Aaarf! I want one!" -Zero

Ah, forgot about NubyTech. 'Twas thinking of EGM2: [link] Though there, they just call Rush "Zero". Maybe they just preferred that name over his actual one, or got something mixed up?

Zero is a cat?

NubyTech says otherwise. Then again, he does get claws in Command Mission...

I usually see Zero as a big cat when falling to more primal instincts, but this works too
