Oh my god. you people realize that the artist doesn't get to choose what get's a DD. i still have no clue what so ever of why this was chosen as a DD so stop discussing it here. if you dont like it. tell the proper people you can find it here FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?
and as for "lumping cutting and suicide together", what can i say... i'm sorry. i'm not going to change it now, and at the time it was what was going through my mind.
for the people who are saying stuff about how cutting can be good. well. i wont lie, my best friend used to cut. she did it to relieve stress. but from my personal standpoint, i know it isn't healthy, and it is something i am very glad i never did.
and if i was refering to assisted suicide i would have put that so please stop using that as an argument as well. i was talking about self suicide. like slitting your wrists or hanging yourself and so on.
any other haters out there... well i'm sorry you feel that way i am not here to change your feelings however.
******UPDATE******
I just uploaded an apology deviation. I feel it's necessary

I agree with the stamp and agree with what you have said.
I agree with complexness, and someone who cuts themselves to cope won't not do it if someone says "don't even think about it"
I think you shouldn't think about it if you can help it, do you know what I mean?
Because when I cut myself, I wasn't exactly in a state that you would call "thinking", though
the stamp has my approval.

I don't find it insulting, and my brother killed himself and sister cuts herself. It's not harmful for people to think about and discuss the issue. I respect your opinion and it moved me to share mine. Whatever gets people discussing the ripples suicide causes, I'm for it.

I'm very sorry for your loss and the troubles your sister has. And I also think it is important not to be quiet about these problems and have discussion.
But a person who is themselves a cutter just being told 'don't think about it, I don't support your behaviour' might feel like crap, because frankly, that doesn't sound supporting at all.

I can see where you're coming from. I support using words to express inner turmoil, not cutting. Perhaps a stamp with that sentiment would be more effective.

Well, who does support it? Self-inflicted cuts are a symptom for mental illness (sounds hard, but yes, to hurt yourself to relief stress or anger does count as that, smoking is pretty much the same just without direct negative consequenses).
Who supports suicide apart of a few amok-killers?
I don't see much sense in this stamp. It's more like you think people are hurting themself because it's fun. You think it's fun for a bulemic to puke?

well... after reading a lot of these messages... a lot of people support assisted suicide. surprisingly.
self inflicted cut, in my opinion, are symptoms of a cry for attention. but that's my opinion.
and it's your opinion of this stamp that you dont like it. and i have to respect that.
one other thing... its a stamp... dont read too much into it

may I change your opinion on the cry for attention? I cut on my hips and no one but my psychologist knew about them. Now that I've stopped I have told my mother that I used to cut, and the one time I relapsed I told my best friend. But further.. I haven;t gotten any kind of attention from this. It would surprise you how many people hide it, it's just that we only hear about the ones that don't.

You can't talk away that self inflicted pain actually is a symptom. Of course there are always people copying and shit, but that's no excuse to call the sick people attention whores. You wouldn't say: ah, you're just puking for the fun of it or the attention that comes with it to a person, that has an eating disorder, do you?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
i-am-anonymous In reply to JonathanMH [2008-10-23 05:26:08 +0000 UTC]
in truth it all depends... does that person really have an eating disorder?
with today's society it's impossible to tell. if you were to see me i highly doubt you would say, oh i see your transgendered. and even if you would you would still pull me aside because it's a sensitive subject. point of this is. you can't always tell. so when you see cuts on a persons arm, the thing that goes through your head... or at least my head... is you are being stupid for cutting. there are much better ways.
thing is.... i know a bit better now... because of my best friend. she used to cut... and she swears by it... it helped her deal with stress and anger... but she has, luckily, stopped because she realized how much damage she was doing to her body

Actually it's less damage than smoking, but smokers would never admit that The point is that it's a more active way of treating your body like shit.
Actually going out every friday and drinking a lot isn't healthier.

It is not meaningful, it is senseless drivel. Suicidal thoughts are not a mental illness. Everyone who tries to tell you that is either a) clueless or b) liar, often both.

That's unforturnate. I just received my ballot for the local and national general elections, and I was very excited to see a "Dying with Dignity" initiative on the local ballot; if successful, it will afford people who are terminally ill and have six or less months to live the option of receiving a lethal injection if they so desire. I think the government has numerous important roles to play in society; I don't, however, think it is just to prohibit seriously ill individuals who are suffering greatly from choosing to end their suffering in a humane way.

i-am-anonymous In reply to octopusmandolin [2008-10-20 21:49:27 +0000 UTC]
you just said assisted suicide. not suicide because of a terminal illness.
in that respect, yes i dont see why not. your going to die anyway right? so in that case yeah go for it. but assisted suicide. no. i think people who hate their lives and go to a doctor to die are in the wrong and should seek help in that case. and that is what i thought of when you said assisted suicide. so we both had our wires crossed in this case

Where I'm from, the term 'assisted suicide' is typically used to refer to right-to-die laws and legislation. Evidently it was presumptious of me, but I didn't think you would interpret the phrase so broadly.

I would have to agree with you, though I don't like people dieing, sometimes it might be what they think is best (though it may sound harsh). It is like abortion,it may be for some people and not for others.

I have cut myself before this past year for about 7 monthes. But very lucky for me, someone i cared about caught me and i haven't cut myself since. It was a horrible experience to go through and when i look at the scars, it's a reminder how how bad i felt about myself and how i never want to feel that way again.
