Description "Manning got what he deserved." These words and the attitude they convey act only to reaffirm and validate my immeasurable disdain for this failed species known as Mankind! It is truly a sad, god-forsaken, damned world we live in when men who's only crime is speaking the truth about the atrocities committed by those in gilded positions of power are condemned for their honesty while worthless slugs with no moral value parade themselves about with their heads eternally lodged up their asses praising the degenerates and madmen who abuse their authority and corrupt every aspect of life in the ceaseless pursuit of self-gain and control.

"Manning got what he deserved." I pray that in time YOU get what you rightly deserve: the endless grief that is inherent to your miserable empty existence and a speedy decent into the bowels of Hell!

Didn't Manning attempt suicide and go on a hunger strike? Aren't they both self inflicted? I hadn't heard of any torture used against him (now her) while being detained. I am not saying there isn't any, just that it is news to me.

BTW, If military personnel feel strongly against policy or orders, there is recourse already under the UCMJ. Article 139, for example, allows you to submit a written grievance for redress of wrongs, not to mention the Request Mast procedures. Leaking info is a violation of the oath of enlistment, the UCMJ, and U.S. Code.

There is a LEGAL way to do things, and the "Whistleblower Laws" allow for it. Doing things VIA channels allows the ability to reduce or eliminate the risk to operatives in the field... guys like me. (Former USMC myself) I'm all for open communication, but not at the expense of military personnel.

Whether Manning's leak risked personnel or not, I don't know. But when my life or my friends' lives are at stake, I would prefer people err on the side of caution and use established channels. (Freedom of Information Act, Request Mast, Whistleblower Laws, etc.)

I do hope this soldier gets her life straightened out and feels comfortable in her own skin. We always say that a service member's suicide is a "10000 mile sniper shot" from the enemy.

There about as a fair chance for manning to get a fair trial as if hell were to freeze over.

Indeed, for the American government doesn't know the meaning of the word "fair"...or "honest", or "morality", or "liberty", or "common sense", or "moral responsibility".

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights from 1948 that was signed by
the United States, is clearly stating that torture is not allowed to be
used against any individual. In addition also the American Convention on
Human Rights from 1977, and the International Convenant on Civil and
Political Rights (from 1977, but not ratified till 1992) were signed by
the US. All of which are an agreement to not use torture on any
individual.
And in case of national law the one thing you search for is Title 18 of
the United States Code, under §2340, which clearly defines torture
as inflicting physical and mental pain on a prisoner. Mental pain is
also defined as being inflictable via drugs, threats of inflicting physical
violence and murder, and threats to torture an person close to the
tortured.
Of course it is not that easy. Unfortunately the CIA and Justice Department
have made a legal analysis on how they don't torture people by saying
they act under the direction of the president (Bush jr. back then) and
don't inflict pain equal or worse than that of severe physical injury,
thus they don't torture people... I assume most of the world would
agree how stupid that is.

Indeed it is more stupid than words can describe. In fact, the only thing stupider are the people here in America who actually believe that crap.

And don't really check their own laws to see that certain
actions of the government are inexcusable, no matter if
Chelsea Manning's act can be seen as treachery or not.
Torture is prohibited by national and international
agreements. It's use on any person, even on the worst,
can't be allowed in a country that was founded upon
humanitarian principles.
