His charackter Yuriko who is the Japanese (or Red-crowned or Manchurian) Crane or just Grus japonensis. It's my most favourite kind of cranes, I guess.
I tried something new at BG. Usually I doesn't draw BGs without lineart. Btw it was my first time drawing sakura, so it looks not really great. But anyway I really tried to do my best.

She's beautiful!

I have to admit it realy is a delight to see you try your hand at backgrounds, even though there is need for polishing, I believe you could bring it towards a more impresionist approach, for instance: [link] or [link] a good examples to which you could approach your handling of the backgrounds, with a bit of polishing I'm sure you could do well It is only a thing of focusing the vibrant colours into shape, this way you don't need to give too much mind into depth as it is created through the colours well placed. Perhaps other tools to paint the backgrounds could give you mroe ease, it is up to you to decide.

Overal lovely colours and the japanese landscape realy works this way quite impresionist already in that sense.

I liked it a lot ^v^

Glad to hear, I tried to draw her as cute as I can

I understand now that I really afraid of BGs, that's why I draw them not so often. I think I should to do something with it.
I love impressionism (it's my favourite style of pictorial art) and if you say so I should try C:

I happy to hear such good words about this BG, 'cause I doesn't really satisfied such result. I hope someday I will draw normal BGs.

Grashcoy In reply to IcebergLonely [2013-03-03 00:47:27 +0000 UTC]

You realy drew her very cute, but not anoyingly cute, that's how it's done, it was very nice ^v^

If you lose fear of doing backgrounds it is logical that with time your backgrounds will improve. Then impressionism shall it be, I'm realy looking forward to see how far can you go with it

You know the say "you are your worst critic" and usually it is true, you'll never be genuinely satisfied with yourself, but if you can start counting the satisfaction of others and contrast it to your personal satisfaction you should feel better with your art. Objectiveley I'm not saying that what you did is a masterpiece, however it realy seems to be the correct path to take, what you could accomplish only with colours realy brought your backgrounds a step forward and if you continue that path it will be far better as long as you keep doing them I for one am satisfied with your try, it realy worked and it is very decent, nothing to be ashamed of nor bland either, it is good. I believe you are being too harsh with yourself, what you did is a very normal background and a very outside of the normal background (an impressionist background) it only needs polishing, belive me I know many who dare to do backgrounds and keep failing to do very basic things, you are far from that, you should be proud of yourself for taking these steps, I recall seeing your try at a background on one of your pictures with iceberg-hen and back then the lines got in the way and you had problems filling spaces but those were decent, now without much lines and only using colours you accomplished 10 times more (if not even more) it feels more alive and you filled the background so no blank space was allowed, that is a milestone.

So keep at it! ^v^

That's really great to hear, 'cause I hate when something looks annoyingly cute. Usually it smell like something pink, glamourous and "kawaii". And I don't like these kind of drawings. So I pleasant to hear such words C:>

Now I still working with it, but usually I am not want to do something that can take too much time without good result. That's my problem. And that's why I doesn't want to draw BGs to every pic. Usually I doesn't feel that I can do it for sure. So my BGs will be rare thing anyway. Usually I just doesn't have time! :/ Or desire.

Thank you very much for such full comment. Your opinion is really important to me, I always be saying that. And you know, that's true. Nobody can tell me so much and give me good advice.
I want to try more types of BGs coloring. Usually I draw it with lines and, you know, it's hard. I really feel that impressionism is better sometimes to me here. Especially with my strong love to impressionism.

Sorry for long waiting - I was too tired to give you good answer and I didn't wanted to told you just few words.
Btw, what do you think about my English? Is it became a little bit better? If I did some mistakes in my text, please tell me.

Also I want to show one of my most favourite blues songs by my favourite blues harmonica player - Sonny Boy Williamson II:

I think this is something very special.

Grashcoy In reply to IcebergLonely [2013-04-07 17:33:34 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, as well you should be

Don't worry about that, the bottomline is to practice them every once in a while, whenever you get inspired, it's not an obligation.

I'm always here to serve by giving my opinion to anyone who needs it

Part of the problem, I think is the lines, you sometimes give as much lines to the backgrounds as you do to the characters and that gives a sense that the characters are part of the background isntead of the characters, and everything becomes to strong for the eye, if the impressionist approach still gives you some trouble under certain contexts then try a more hybrid approach to where you still find it difficult to implement, that is with more subtle lines and I guess that should help.

Well now we are equal, it realy took me a while to answer to this as well because I had other stuff to do. Indeed you english is becoming better, your vocabulary has become more extense and real, it realy seem good, however it is your grammar what isn't paying that much off. The mistakes are:

"Usually it smell- Usually it smells"

"these kind of drawings- these kinds of drawings/OR/this kind of drawings" you can't have it both ways plural and singular at the same time.

"So I pleasant to hear such words- So I'm(am) pleased to hear such words" 'm(am) is part of the verb "to be" and goes with I, while "pleasent" is an adjective while "pleased" is a verb.

"Now I still working with it, but usually I am not want to do something that can take too much time without good result.-
Now I'm still working on it, but usually I don't(do not) want to do something that could take too much time without a good result."

"And that's why I doesn't want to draw BG's /AND/ I doesn't feel that I can do it for sure /both have the same mistake and the second is in the word (can)/- And that's why I don't /AND/ I don't feel that I could do it for sure."
I, you, they and we DO or DON'T while he, she and it DOES or DOESN'T.

"So my BGs will be rare thing anyway- So my BGs will be a rare thing anyway" We describe a thing as opposed to describe thing as a general example the "a" is omited when it is plural when we describe things where it is WRONG to describe a things. Just in case you're wondering.

"Thank you very much for such full comment- Thank you very much for such a full comment"

"I always be saying that- I'll(will) always be saying that"

"I want to try more types of BGs coloring- I want to try more types of BG coloring" it is background coloring as the name of the subject.

"Usually I draw it with lines- Usually I draw them with lines" Plural, we are refering to backgrounds in general instead of a single background in particular.

"Sorry for long waiting- Sorry for the long waiting"

"I was too tired to give you good answer- I was too tired to give you a good answer"

"I didn't wanted to told you just few words- I didn't want to tell you just a few words"
This one is more tricky to most people learning english, when you say did or didn't the next word can't be phrased in the past tense, for instance "I wanted OR never wanted to do something" but when you say "did" it becomes "I did want OR didn't want to do something" "did" and "didn't" imply that the subject discussed occured in the past so when you give the next word a past tense as in "wanted" the sentence becomes redundant as if you where saying "it happened" twice in the same sentence.

"Is it became a little bit better?- Has it become a little bit better?"
When you say "became you are saying that it happened a long time ago and can't be phrased in a question, it is usually used when you make an affirmation.

Well I believe those are all the mistakes in that comment, as you can see it is a matter of grammar and identifying tenses, I suggest using the google translator on the sentences I compared to see if it is possible to appreciate the differences in russian, since I'm not an expert in russian I'm affraid my help can only strech as far as my english goes.

Regarding that song, well it is one of many good examples of what blues is trying to portray, beyond just simple loneliness the spirit of blues goes to the fact of discrimination against black people which was far more terrible than it is today, even though many are still suffering from it every day, for instance this song is trying to tell ironically that nobody is going to send the character of the song flowers because he knows nobody will miss him, because (within the context the song was written) he is poor and black, thus he ironically says that he wants nobody to send him flowers because nobody will send him flowers anyway, it is his dark humor laughing at the facts that he is alone, and that is the sense of old school blues of course.

It sets the mood for everyone feeling "blue" that is to feel alone.

Quite frankly it is a fascinating piece, not dissimilar from many more I heard before. And well even I'm not a follower of blues but more of jazz I can appreciate that level of art which is more essencialy in the tune than the artistry of the voice or the prowess of the instrument player, usualy a given for this genre.

I hope my help was useful to you

And again, sorry for the long waiting! I was pretty busy in my University and too tired even to read comments. Actually, now I feel like a bit busy with studying too, but this feeling not so terrible as before.

You know, I feel the same thing about my BG drawings. Too much lines and these lines someimes make the BGs looks too simply, while without lines I can avoid this. Anyway, now I still searching for my own way in this part of drawings.

Thanks a lot for showing me my mistakes. I'll try avoid these mitakes and some of your rules I even wrote in my notebook with English rules. My teacher in University learn our bad, so I can't tell that University give me some new Englisg knowledges :/ My friend who can speak like Englishman (and who promised me to learn me speak right and who hasn't fulfilled the promise untill now) often talks that this problem in Russia almost everywhere - not enough good teachers there.
And Google translator is VERY bad choise if you want to speak right. I don't know how in other countries with that, but here, If you translate something in Google translator, this text is completely wrong.

I like this song a lot. Such calm, but strong tune and harmonica solos are really amazing. I love blues, 'cause this kind of music always be relevant. Its textes not only about loneliness, blues can be about everything - you can write a good song about an ugly spot on your wallpaper.

And yes, of course your help was very useful! Thank you very much! [:

Grashcoy In reply to IcebergLonely [2013-06-07 17:06:23 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I'm realy lazy... I should have answered this one a while ago, I've been distracted from most social media, sorry.

Hmm, I think you will get used to being busy and the feeling won't be so terrible anymore.

You'll find your way with BGs, it's just practice and patience, well so I've been told XD

Well you're welcome for the help, even on this sentence you are still making mistakes like "teaching" instead of "learning" wich are different words by meaning and that is a vocabulary thing not a grammar one, but it comes down to practice and self-teaching, no subtitels in english movies, TV shows, videogames, etc, reading lots of books in english, everyday reading somethign in a grammar dictionary and memorizing it, or implementing it, which is more useful than memorizing alone. Here in Chile we also have the same problem with english, not enough good teachers, most of them work for expensive private schools, and the common public system barely teaches the basics, I learned by myself, even down to the accents, because I like to immitate sounds a lot and making voices and actor's impressions, that alone you learn through listening carefully and spending a good chunk of your time like an hour to listen complex sets of sounds, complex classical music and learning an instrument genuinely help in concentrating simultaneously in the different sounds the instrumments make, this will help you a lot while learning accents and pronunciation, the amin thing is that english is best learned through speaking it daily, trying as best as you can, this is because not only is it the best and most efficient way, but also because it is either that or to pay an awful lot of money in a specialized english institute, and don't worry, it will work in time, 6 years ago, I sucked in english, far worse than you, and now I'm indistiguishable from any US american or british guy and my mother language is still spanish, so my progress and yours as well in the language has permitted that people with two very different mother languages (russian and spanish, which are mutually impossible to understand) like us could share a talk on this medium, it goes to show that practice and an easy and universalised form of speaking works in the task of bringing the world together.

Again sorry for taking so damn long.
