I've been looking for something like this. You've simplified it enough to seem do-able for a newbie like me. Thanks so much!

Eheh heh heh
Since I self taught myself with observation, I do MANY things entirely different. I use the dodge, burn and blur tools a lot for shading. Oh I haven't found out how to have multiple layers in one specific layer. Or maybe my version doesn't have the option? I have Adobe 2.0 But your tips give me some inspiration, I'll have to tinker around some more thanks

Haha, my techniques are self-taught too. ^___^
I've been using photoshop allll by myself for about three years now. It was harrrrd when I first started learning.
You'll eventually find that dodge and burn tools don't deliver results as good as making a color pallete and shading manually.
Adobe 2.0 may not be able to make layer sets. O.O I've never worked with that version before. I'm only familiar with 5.0 - CS. O.<

hm, yeah, 2.0's insufficient D< And i do agree color palletes are better but burning has been fun

Your tutorial is great help, but I stuck in background erasing... You didn't stated clear how to do this T_T Or I'm just that dumb

Ooh, I see what you mean. xD Sorry.
Just erase it with the eraser, or paint it in white.

Okay, thank you. I guess I missed something in Photoshop 7, but I guess I can't make such a brush like you made... T_T Is this option available only in PS CS?

ichigosweet In reply to LadyMariko [2005-12-01 18:30:39 +0000 UTC]
No, you can configure a brush like that in PS 7! That's the first photoshop I ever used, so I know what I'm talking about.
If I remember correctly, you can open the brush palette by pressing a button-type-thing near the upper right corner of photoshop.
I found a screen cap and circled it for you~. ( [link] )
And it's smooth sailing from there.

Erasing the background? You mean, getting rid of all of the white around your lineart sketch?
Look at step C in the scanning portion of my tutorial. That should help. <3

I've never thought of using colour wheels before. I'm gonna come back and favourite this as soon as I have 112 devs. (I'm funny about the number of favourites not being more than the number of devs... like it is right now. )

Thanks!
o.o.... that's a good idea actually. I think I'll pick up on that habit, too! (I've got 15 devs and 14 fav's so far~.)

It's interesting to see how you colour, especially since you do it so well!!! And such a pretty tutorial it is!
Heh, I colour my pictures SO differently to this, still, to each their own eh?

It's best to use a reference picture sometimes, if you don't know about those things.
