Description
Inspired by eating disorders and body dysmorphia. A distorted perception of the self, it is characterized by a preoccupation with an imaged defect in appearance. An intense focus on perceived flaws in the physical appearance, whether real or imaged, the distress is excessive and overwhelming. High extents are often taken to "perfect" the flaws, a sense of control over the appearance by cosmetic procedures and immoderate physical activity is presented. Eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia, and binge-eating are common. They are characterized by obsession of bodily appearance, weight, and consumption of food, it often leads to unsafe behaviors in order to maintain control. An image in the mind that will only exist as a perception in the mind, never to fit permanently in the mirror of reality.
