Using one of the anthro commissions I've gotten as an example, here's a tutorial on how I do backgrounds in icons!I use Photoshop cs5 for my painting!
All the linework on the character was done in Paint Tool SAI
This last part doesn't explain, but when I shrink my icons down and sharpen them the backgrounds are a bit sharper and cleaner again but not as much as the character. I hope this helps!

Hey, thanks! That's helpful for art in general, not just icon backgrounds. Certainly, it should help cut down the amount of time (and braincells!) I usually end up wasting on stuff. XD So, thanks again!
