Description
My first tutorial:Digital coloring in Photoshop (basics), by using a mask.
I used Photoshop CS3 for this tutorial.
It's really just the basics. Shading, coloring outlines, etc. will be explained in other tutorials.
There already are so many tutorials out there, but... well, now it's so many + 1.

i can't seem to get to the vector mask...it only lets me use layer mask, but i use pen tool and then click...there is no way to select an option. Once i click 'layer mask' though, the button will turn into a vector mask...but at that point i'll have two chains - one a layer and one a vector?

I have lines that were kindly shared with me to let me color, and since are so cute, I got the inspiration to try to throw on some flat colors digitally. (I don't do digital, I do traditional) So. I wanted help on how to go about adding colors without ruining the lines or get that grainy, ugly outline and omg, this is of SO MUCH HELP. I never knew how to do some of these tricks here with the masks. <3 Thank you so much for doing this. ^__^

Hmmm, I am still not sure about the useful purposes for layer masking.
Maybe I'm just too thick headed! X))
Anywho ... Since I am poor and short on funds, I can't afford Adobe Photoshop CS3. But I do have an old copy of Adobe Photoshop 6, Paint Shop Pro 7 and the free Open Source Gimp 2.8 that I use interchangeably. PSP 7, however, has a glitch in it in which the layer tool will hang or crash the program if used, but been able to get around that to maneuver around and use layers through short-cut keys.
All in all, I've never really needed to use masking ... but it is something that I should play around with, anyhow.

I have never worked with Photoshop Elements, but it's possible that there are some options missing (that are available in the full Photoshop version).

Thanks for these tutorials! I have had some sort of right way of knowing how to do coloring, but there have been something major stuff always messing it up, and now I finally got myself to try again with this. And it seemed I didn't mess it up!
Now I'm going to try this to my own art. Thanks again
