Description Note: This tutorial is for Photoshop Elements, but it should work with other Photoshop versions as well. Also, this is just how I do my comic pages...there are plenty of techniques out there, so I urge people to look for the ones that fit them best^^.

A couple people were asking about how I do lineart for KO, so I figured I'd upload this. It's not all that great and the picture used is horribly old, so I apologize. Also, this is probably nothing new for those who regularly use Photoshop, but for those who are new to PS, I hope this helps!

There is another way you can prep lineart PERFECTLY from pencil but have the transparency. If you wanna know, Ill explain it to you.

Use a window or some sort of glass with a light source behind it. I used to do this before I bought a lightbox.

Thats actually really helpful cos i do stuff all on one layer, which is a pain in the ass. Because if i start using 1 layer i'll end up using 11 just to do one section of the pictur, which immensly pointless.
The photoshop i now have is 5. i didn have CS2 on trial, i lost the disk and its ran out I'll find it... i hope. But its very kind of you to do a tutorial Kahvie

I used to save as JPG's...but it made my images come out blurry. I know that on theGIMP you can set your quality to 100% and make it better. Is that possible with photoshop?
I like PNG's as well. They're not blurry or weird looking! xD

cool stuff. I am not a newbie in PS and already knew that trick, but once is the first time for everyone. I would apreciate some further steps in colorin and shading and cellshading and stuff. I got a GT for christmas. O_o Very surprisingly and... It gives me HORRORS! I can't do a single thing with it, I must be such an idiot... perhaps you have some tricks for tablet-idiots?

I'm new with photoshop and comics as well, so this was like a wish come true, hehe ^^ The more tricks the better, that way I, and other artists as well, can find easier ways to make their pages! Like my last one, I did the lines and colour by hand Oo ,
Left me too tired to add anything else! Bad thing

I have Photshop CS & Image Ready with it, good or bad thing? Am I doomed to only be able to use layers when tracing and colouring?

Besides that, to the point: Thanks, Kahvie! =3

This is great, it's nice to see awesome artists give tutorials to show us common folk how it's done. This was actually the first technique I ever learned and used to color pics in PS. Great work.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Thiefling [2007-01-02 04:30:03 +0000 UTC]

Hey. I use Elements too. Nice job. I use a slightly different technique. Some of the things we do are alike, but I like thicker lines, so I actually go all out on line art and such.

Maybe I would do what you do, if my sketches were decipherable to everyone else. They're like hieroglyphics that only I can decode (that's how scary they are). The way you do it seems much quicker, but I suppose I'll live.
