Description Here's the second part of the tutorial, which is going over how to do lineart with the pen tool and its paths and such. o_o It's 4 in the morning, so please! if you see any mistakes and have any critiques, do so.

This is the Beta version, so seriously, if you see something you think would make it better, I'll see what I can do.
I really hope this is helpful to anyone that uses it. ^_^

I still use this method and it works just fine. Not sure what's wrong with whatever you're doing, but it definitely works.

your tutorial helped me a lot.
it's applicable by using just the mouse, not only by using a tablet.

Awesome tutorial. =] It's very helpful. I have one quick question though. Does clicking simulate pressure make the line randomly thin and thick? Or does it have something to do with here you put your first and last anchor point?

Like does it make lines thicker starting at your first anchor point and thinner at your last? Does that make sense? lD;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PoliteYetPeculiar In reply to Bisquet [2008-06-18 03:40:29 +0000 UTC]

Simulate pressure tries its best to recreate the effect of a hand-drawn line, without the mistakes of an actual hand-drawn line. So for example, if you have an S-shaped line that you've created with several anchor points, it'll be the thinnest at the very first and very last anchor points and then get thicker towards the middle. If that makes any sense.

Oh. Okay, that makes sense. Thank you!

Shadow125 [2008-01-01 02:54:43 +0000 UTC]

Very nice tutorial. How do you make the simulates pressure go all the way so the lineart is a full outline rather than just faded lines.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PoliteYetPeculiar In reply to Shadow125 [2008-01-03 17:02:48 +0000 UTC]

You can't adjust that... that's the con with using simulate pressure. What I do is use thicker lines and tweak it a bit... or just do it sans the simulate pressure and create the effect on my own.

I need help... I try and add more than two point, but it fills in the area inside the points with a triangle.

And it won't let me select Stroke Path.

*cry*

If you notice at the very beginning of the tutorial, right above the "Prepping Lineart" text... take a look at that toolbar and make sure yours looks the same. You've got the "Fill Pixels" selected when you need to have "Paths" selected.

Thanks! It helped me understand the pen better. But I have a problem, when I use stimulate pressure, the ends tends to be too light, like what happened in yours. Is there a way I can set how much pressure is used? I want a hand drawn looking line, but I don't want the ends of the line looking like it didn't show up, and the midle of the line thick.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PoliteYetPeculiar In reply to Scarlettestar [2007-09-15 08:26:03 +0000 UTC]

For lines like that, I usually just don't use the simulate pressure and do it by hand. It's not that much extra work and has the same effect that you're looking for. I usually use simulate pressure for things like hair and whiskers and fur, which require that wispy look.

There may be an option to increase or decrease the pressure in the brush palette, though I'm not entirely sure.

You should make sure that it's set on Brush in the small box that comes up when you right click with the pen tool. It's set on pencil initially.

Hey, can this be done on Corel Paint Shop Pro X? It looks good and I've seen pics that where made with this technique, and they look great. This is what I like to see. Do you know if it will work for CPSP X?

PoliteYetPeculiar In reply to DeviateScales [2007-03-22 16:22:04 +0000 UTC]

Frankly, I'm not too familiar with CPSP X. I used Paint Shop Pro ages ago and then discovered Photoshop. Sorry. :3

Just Google "Photoshop CS2 torrent" And if you don't have a torrent software, try utorrent or bitorrent. Just google those as well.

uugg I tried looking up a download for Photoshop CS2 torrent, then utorrent, then bitorrent, and I could only find things that were quite close to $1k. You sure there is a download that does not cost something big?

This is a nice tutorial! I tried the simulate pressure, and didn't come out right. I'll try it again, to see what I did wrong. Thanks for putting the time and effort. Oh, and is there a pressure option for Illustrator? I wouldn't think so, but I was just curious.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PoliteYetPeculiar In reply to mrcontroversial [2006-09-03 20:36:38 +0000 UTC]

The pressure sensitivity should work... if not, try re-installing your driver for your tablet. I used to have trouble with that as well. And then just make sure you set it up in PS so that it registers the sensitivity.

And I've used Illustrator before, and the pressure sensitivity does work for that program I'm pretty sure.

Just let me know if you have any more questions!
