That clipping mask thing, it could have made my life SO MUCH EASIER if I'd have known about it like five years ago. I fail at photoshop.

I've tried that before with my paint program.

I must say I do like the effect

I've always liked sketch lines and was always sad to see them go when I've done "traditional" art. I'm glad sketchlines can now easily come back to the finished product.

If I were to post a drawing tutorial, it'd probably wouldn't say much more than; "Draw from life, learn to observe the shapes that make out the people and objects that surround you, and always be open for constructive criticism." xD

Interesting to see.
Most of my art is done in pencil also, but I have PS Elements so I have to use a different method to color under the lineart.

It's so realistic, like you took a picture.

Your sketchyness reminds me of an effect on my friend's program, but it's not adobe. XD;

I've been keeping an eye out for a tutorial that showed how to turn a sketch into a piece of digital art
And now I have one. C:
I will now proceed to use this tutorial to attempt the techniques which you have now bestowed upon your followers. *is rambling because it's late at night*

Very helpfull. Gotta see if this works with GIMP though.

Let try to guess something else about you:
Are you, or at any point did, live in Austrailia?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GearOtter In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-23 04:56:57 +0000 UTC]

Nope, never been there. D=

Though I did live in the US for two years. Other than that, I've been in Canada for my entire life.

And I hope it works in GIMP for you.

redbaron1234 In reply to GearOtter [2009-02-23 05:00:08 +0000 UTC]

DARN! Ah well. Gotta keep guessing. Getting an aussie vibe though. They say you can tell a lot about a person by their art. Been trying to learn that art.

Also, FINALLY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT GIMP IS AND DOESN'T THINK I HAVE A LEATHER FETISH!

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-23 05:03:23 +0000 UTC]

I know quite a few people who've wondered what GIMP is
I just link them to the homepage or tell them it's the poor man's photoshop

redbaron1234 In reply to Hipster-Coyote [2009-02-23 06:19:03 +0000 UTC]

My words are this:
GNU
Image
Manipulation
Program
or G.I.M.P.
It's free, similar to photoshop, and FREE!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-23 07:56:09 +0000 UTC]

xD I still have to figure out what GNU even STANDS FOR!
I've also recently been shown a free program called Sai, when I get back on my laptop with internet I'm downloading it to try it. I was told that it would do the pressure sensativity with my tablet, which GIMP doesn't.

redbaron1234 In reply to Hipster-Coyote [2009-02-24 04:22:38 +0000 UTC]

Ahhhh... I don't have a tablet. Get by with my mouse well enough though. Could you send me the list?

Now to work on drawing muzzles...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-24 04:31:37 +0000 UTC]

*just got his tablet like three days ago* And I'm afraid I don't have a link, I'm going to google it when I get back on my lappy on Thursday.

Give it time. I'm still perfecting how I draw muzzles.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

redbaron1234 In reply to Hipster-Coyote [2009-02-24 05:09:52 +0000 UTC]

I know that a muzzle is in essinse a really long nose. I'm even studing "Gray's Anatomy" for reference. If Biology has taught me one thing, that finding shared structures aid drawing a lot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-24 05:13:31 +0000 UTC]

xD I reference a lot, but mostly for poses-I've had enough practice so that I can tell what looks alright and what needs to be worked with.
Besides, it's not like I'm going for realistic or anything.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

redbaron1234 In reply to Hipster-Coyote [2009-02-24 05:48:22 +0000 UTC]

Of course!
I just figure that if I can draw one thing, I can learn to draw other tihngs too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-24 05:54:41 +0000 UTC]

xD Never be afraid to reference. I reference poses sometimes, it makes it easier.
True, but it always helps to learn the differences between things. A fox snout and a wolf muzzle are different looking even without color.

I meant how a hand is a modified foot.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-24 06:28:19 +0000 UTC]

On anthros, I draw handpaws and footpaws differently. For hands I do like normal human hands but a bit furrier and with claws, and paws look like regular paws.
Humans? I can't draw a foot to save my life. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

redbaron1234 In reply to Hipster-Coyote [2009-02-25 03:53:24 +0000 UTC]

Ummmm... Just look down at your own feet.
For foot paws, I draw them like they are on their toes, which esentially they are.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-25 04:07:40 +0000 UTC]

XD That fails. I've tried it. So usually I try to find a reference.
The way I draw footpaws changes each time. Sometimes they're more animal and sometimes they're more human. Sometimes I do them anatomically correct and sometimes I don't.

redbaron1234 In reply to Hipster-Coyote [2009-02-25 04:41:30 +0000 UTC]

Thank god I'm more known for my writing than drawing skills. Rally, I draw because somebody wants me to.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-25 04:44:51 +0000 UTC]

xD I'm equally known for my writing and my drawing. I can strike up a song or a poem, write up a decent plotline, or sketch out an idea at the drop of a hat (okay, not that fast. But sometimes, things just come to me) God. I just remembered I need to retype up the next chapter of my novel. And I don't want to right now.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-25 06:40:07 +0000 UTC]

HA! I have one that I've been working on for at least two years that I can never give up, I have one novel being written and another that I stopped, as well as a world for my RP characters to inhabit (you know, just the basic rules of their world, not an actual STORY per se), as well as several ideas for fanfics I'll never do.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

redbaron1234 In reply to Hipster-Coyote [2009-02-26 03:57:41 +0000 UTC]

Ahhhh... I kinda hate fanfics because I see good ones as talent wasted paying homage to someone even more talented.

But I crave input on my stories.(hint)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-26 16:07:35 +0000 UTC]

xD I like when someone takes the WORLD of the game and creates their own characters story. Or what my friend and I used to do, grab the characters, throw them into a random situation, and continue on!

Hipster-Coyote In reply to redbaron1234 [2009-02-27 18:35:44 +0000 UTC]

GNU is the word on it's own
it's named after a wildebeest, or gnu (see wikipedia on wildebeest => [link] ). that's why the gnu is the GNU logo

there is a backronym though: "GNU, not Unix"
this makes an even worse infinite loop on the word GNU though lol

Hipster-Coyote In reply to JanTuts [2009-02-23 16:12:41 +0000 UTC]

I didn't think it was named after the ANIMAL
And I though the logo was a dog or something
Thanks
