You just can't go wrong with octopi (and poo on the spell-checker for not knowing that word, as they are featured so frequently in contemporary art, mostly famously probably by Robert Mapplethorpe). The color of the tentacles and the hair go really well together, even if it is a little disgusting in the lower left part where I can't identify the anomalous flesh (not that I don't go gross-out work on occasion). Octopodes? (Ha! the dictionary didn't know that version either). Octopuses? Rock on.
Lovely Octopuses. Poor things though. They are extraordinarily and uniquely intelligent in the animal kingdom. The can change color, form, and texture almost instantaneously, and communicate with other octopuses in a visual language unfathomable to use aurally based communicators.
Just out of curiosity, has this model developed a (temporary) aversion to eating octopuses? I wonder what her experience of being covered with those clammy, and possibly smelly, little fellers was like. So much orange!

oh, p.s. I am familiar with Mapplethorpe, but not to a huge extent, but I am definitely aware of that guy and notorious image. I tried looking for a photo he did with octopi but I couldn't find one

My mistake. It was Herb Ritts who did that photo (I'm not really a big fan of him or Mapplethorpe, but had some photo classes so saw most the contemporaries, and apparently mixed them up). Here's a link: [link]
The photo is from 1989. I don't know if it's the first famous person/octopus photo, but once one's seen it, it's hard to forget. Because of the man in the photo, and the formality of the whole thing, I thought it was a Mapplethorpe.

And yea, I could see the mapplethorpe-ness in that photo. I actually looked up mapplethorpe and octopus together, and that image of herb ritts showed up, so it can't be that far off of a conclusion to make

Amazing! How did you keep the octopodes from
a) Sliding off.
and b) Clinging onto her body by flipping over (minus the two on the bottom)

A) They kinda just stuck to her. Yea, it was as gross as it sound, lol! But gross in a fun way
b) their bodies sort of did a "vacuum" to her skin cause they wet and rubbery, and a bit slimy and fishy, so they had to be peeled off. That is how i preventing the clinging when we were done with the shoot.
