Featured Gallery
When visiting your own Gallery or the Gallery of another deviant, the section displayed by default is your Featured folder. Do you organize what appears in your Featured folder and what does not, or do you submit everything to your Featured folder? When looking at another deviant's Gallery, do you typically go directly to the "Browse" mode, or do you usually browse through their Featured folder and other folders?

"In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback."
I know how much work it takes to manage a website this big, but really, I barely see anything in your 'Change Log' that actually responds to anything maybe 70-80% of the deviants are complaining about.

It saddens me to see that still nothing has been done about the More Like This feature, despite the numerous pleas from users for some sort of compromise. While I personally like the feature, I would agree that it could use some work, especially since there are still so many people who are dissatisfied with it. A lot of really great ideas have been presented so far in terms of a compromise- I think you really ought to take some of them into consideration. Personally, I think a good compromise would be to have the "More Like This" box become just a small box below the "More from this artist" section with an identical layout, featuring four of five tiny thumbnails and then having a link below that you can click if you want to see more. That way, it would still be there for those wanting to use it, but it wouldn't be as big or in-the-way for those who don't. It would also be nice if the images changed when you refreshed the page.
Presentation aside, I think it could also use a bit of tweaking in terms of what art shows up. It annoys me to see that it only features the most popular works of that particular genre or artist rather than a mixed variety of art; basically, if you're not a super popular artist, then very little of your own art gets featured, and the box instead gets filled by artists who are already much more popular than you are. And because it's based on popularity, the works that are featured often have little to do with the piece being viewed, especially for varied artists like myself. (It's a little odd clicking on one of my landscape drawings and expecting to see other landscapes, only to instead be presented with a bunch of stamps and Neopets art, which I also make from time to time and generally tend to be a little more popular than my other works).
Despite its flaws, I do think that it's a good feature overall, and I do enjoy using it, but I would highly recommend that you consider tweaking certain aspects of it.
As for the discussion question, I personally like to use my Featured folder for displaying a few pieces of art that I feel give viewers the basic idea of my style, and then I use the folders for displaying specific categories (i.e. traditional art, digital art, stamps, etc). When I'm viewing other peoples' galleries, I'll typically start by looking at the "Featured" folder to get a feel for the artist's style, and then if I really like their stuff, I'll then click on "browse" to see all of their art.

I REALLY wish the "more like this" feature would stop showing such irrelevant results for my deviations (like this one [link] ) I draw mostly horses, but the "more like this" button ALWAYS gives results for the same 10 or so deviations that have Sonic fanart in them. It doesn't make any sense. I have also done the "help improve more like this" several times for several of my deviations, but nothing ever improves. I'm just tired of seeing the same 10 irrelevant deviations in the "more like this" box next to ALL of my work no matter what I do. I would really appreciate some improvement with it.

Featured Gallery:
I usually put my favorites works there AND in the respective folder. Would be good with we (premium account) could style the feature folder like the rest of the gallery. I would like too if was possible arrange "newest to oldest" and vice-versa.
I still don't aprove MLT. Please put it above the main deviation or better forget about it. It's disturbing and annoying. The page is mine and I don't want feature others works. If the visitor want see more, so he clicks in the MLT button.
I don't like use Stash for NOTHING. Stop force us to use this...
It's sad... I'm a deviant for 5 years and every update that passes my love for this site decreases. You care less about our opinion and about art... I's not a facebook page, it's an art site.

Its nice to see you're STILL ignoring all of the negative feedback about more like this. Its like you only listen to those who are telling you what you want to hear.
Its the same as the whole username debate - you aren't using any old id system at all, you use a numerical membership id just like twitter and other sites like it and yet you still wont purge inactive accounts and deactivated accounts, or allow more frequent username changes. Is that because your site stats of members would be at least halved and it wouldn't look as good?
This site is starting to go really bad. You keep introducing changing stupid and meaningless things (What's Hot for example) but you wont focus on the more important things that people have been calling for for years.
I dont think I'll be renewing my premium membership after this because what you offer to your paying customers really is below par.

Not any of the ones I've encountered, and I've encountered quite a few. Indeed in this entire discussion your the only one resorting to childish insults, no doubt due to having run out of valid points by which to argue your case. Still, if the "Mad" comments are consistently listed as outnumbering every other emote, that's nothing to be sneezed at whether you agree or not, and the entire concept of beta testing hinges on the developers listening to what the beta testers (especially if they're the majority) have to say and attempting to correct the program accordingly.

I am often using my featured gallery to switch around which deviations of mine appear, as well as using that of others since most often the best stuff a person has to offer, or their personal favorites, are posted front and center thanks to featured. I might browse every now and then, but featured is where I spent most of my time, as well as organizing my own works.

I've seen many people who organize their feature folder--I don't do it as much as some, but I do like to take some stuff out of the featured section, especially things like comic pages that can be accessed through the title page. It's good for removing general clutter.
When visiting a deviant's gallery, it really depends for me. I might click "Browse" to see if there's a lot missing, or what they put up recently--but I browse the featured folder too.

I always stick to the featured folder because I assume it's the same as the browse folder, I got really confused when I realized all my new deviations weren't appearing in there and didn't realize they were separate until I found out how to also make my deviations shown in the browse folder appear in my featured folder, I think it's kind of pointless, we have scraps for things we don't want shown if we want a collection of our best work we could just make a folder for it

Well then I guess it is time to test it out - although personally I have never used Stash in my life, never felt the need for it.
As far as gallery browsing goes I go directly to 'Browse', without looking at the Featured folder because the stuff I am interested in and find the most interesting is rarely the one that is Featured. I also enjoy seeing the progress that the artist has made. That's why I often find myself going to Browse but I usually start at the last page and work my way to the newer stuff. Sometimes I use artist's folders or categories to narrow the works to my area of interest but I never rely on Featured.
It is also something I do not use myself. I add anything there if I remember and I usually don't. If there was such an option I would switch it off for my gallery.

I find it as a creative tool that allows for greater expression. I'll combine various media from a variety on sources, including off site images and my personal work. Many times I import these into Sta.sh Writer to tell a story, express emotion, or to make a point.
So why Sta.sh?
Remember in my last comment to you
[2013 Journal Update]
"About 98% of my thoughts go into a members comments." however many of these creations are 100% personal and links are posted in notes. These are intended to bring a smile, a laugh,
or even brighten a gloomy period. It's up to them to save it off-site or not, because the work is deleted once they view it.
Once I created a short Murder Mystery by this very method. The use of photos, GIF's, and links kept the curious lady chasing the story. Total fun for the both of us. [yeah, I should've saved that one...Damn]
A Better Understanding Now?
While not for everyone, I embrace this application to create an active "Greeting Card".
Understandably, I find that most artists are busy with their own endeavors to have the time to take this detour.
I'll always take a brief moment to point out a benefit not considered by others.

"More like this" SHOULD NOT BE ABOVE "more from this artist". You feature FIFTEEN thumbnails of larger size from different artists over and above the own artist's work ON THAT ARTIST'S PAGE, where the artist whose art is supposedly being featured only gets three or four thumbnails "hidden" below "more like this".
Artists' pages being used to feature art other than their own is only acceptable when the artist's work is given priority, and right now you're driving traffic AWAY from the artist.

I love deviantart, but in the past few months the changes made to it made me lose my passion for this site. Honestly, I want to enjoy being on here, but it´s very dificult.
The main reason may be that you guys just seem to care less about art than, say, 2 years ago.
Let´s take the matter of art theft as an example. Earlier, when I came across a piece of artwork that was stolen, I´d report it - and I´d get an answer SOMEDAY (at least in most cases).
Whenever I sent a report last year, it remained untouched or got ignored.
Now, you discourage 3rd party reporting by using the dmca system, which requires all sorts of (personal) information. Predictably, many people won´t want to go through all that trouble, so they´ll just ignore artwork that breaks copyright. Not good, man!
Instead we get lots of additions to stash (which is as buggy as ever and being forced on us to write journals), madefire, more like this (which did not only get horrible feedback - you even decided to make it even bigger and obnoxius)...the list goes (unfortunately) on.
Now, some of the changes are nifty, but I still wish you´d have your priorities elsewhere, like for example make the site usable for smartphones, faster resolve of reports, etc.
In conclusion, I want to beg you to listen to the feedback people give you on the changes - don´t just completely ignore it as you did with more like this!
Please read the comments at least under the site updates!
oh and look what happened when I wrote this and clicked on "emoticons":[link]
