Description
Crusader-Class Galleon
These huge ships were originally designed as a means of securing large amounts of cargo without the need of escort vessels in the years immediately after the first Terran Protectorate-Imperial Consortium War. Developed by Hashimaru Aerospace Industries with modular internal bays, they were used for about two decades by a number of shipping companies. But the rise of independent mercenaries, and the military's dogged reliance on escort vessels, which they saw as more flexible, stifled sales. Also, Orion Arms Industries won the lucrative Terran Protectorate Stellar Navy contract at the time and has held onto it ever sense, leading to Hashimaru ending its run of what were then known as Hughes-class galleons prematurely.
However, the company had manufactured a large number, the bulk of which were manufactured at a shipyard it maintained in the Hyperion Sector near the Colonies of the Line. The Colonies at the time sat at one end of what everyone thought would be a major growth sector, with the Xintrin Merchant Guild on the other side. But the establishment of the Terminus Line, a boundary meant to prevent humans from venturing into the Sea of Dead Stars and antagonizing its violent inhabitants, killed expansion in the area and threats from beyond the line lead to the development of the Fortress Worlds now known as the Colonies of the Line.
Those colonies found themselves in the possession of what HAI had hoped would become a treasure fleet of galleons to rival the Xintrin trade convoys and were able to purchase them for a fraction of their value in bulk. Over the last few years the Colonies of the Line, lead by the Inquisition forces, have refitted the Hughes-Class, with upgraded avionics, weapons and armor. It has been rechristened the Crusader Class, and are a significant part of the Inquisition Fleet and the militia fleets of the Colonies of the Line.
There are a few of the old Hughes configurations in the hands of private shipping companies, but the Inquisition has purchased them whenever they could. It is unclear how many of these ships they currently have space worthy, as keeping the number secret was part of the deal with Hashimaru. Original assumptions were that Hashimaru requested the secrecy to hide its financial losses, but now some are beginning to question whether it was the colonies themselves who wanted the number of these vessels kept secret.

Ever think about how much damage one of these ships could do if they just drop... from space.

As always, nice work. I love the class' history and the technical specs. And I'm glad we're nominally on the Inquisition's side.
