Sorry to bring more Frozen drama...but really...On tumblr there's this big-ass fight over the fact that Disney made Anna, Elsa, and their mom look similar, making people say Disney is lazy when it comes to making women. Um...THEY'RE RELATED, OF COURSE THEY WOULD LOOK SIMILAR. Also NOT ALL OF THE FUCKING FEMALES LOOK THE SAME, LOOK AT THE FUCKING BACKGROUND CHARACTERS!
Yet in anime they make non-related characters look similar and in some others to the point of sameface, but you don't see anyone crying over that.
Because it's kawaii-desu anime and Japan can do no wrong! K-On might not be a really good example sorry ;v;
Note: Also I am not saying that K-On is bad, nor should you watch it, or that you should be ashamed for liking it!
I bet like 20 bucks if any female character in the upcoming "Big Hero 6" has the "Rapunzel Formula" |D
An extra 5 if it ends up being a huge SJW shitstorm, especially that the name of the setting is "San Fransokyo" 8D

Lol, I've never said that about Disney, I like their art, most of the time. But I tjink whatever you chose is a bad-ish example. I mean, I think even something as simple as APh has as much variation as Disney. Same for one piece, to an extent.

Yeah, I agree with this. Anna's, Elsa's and their mom's faces are similar because they are related, while those anime characters under them have the same faces, almost with minor to no changes. I can't call Disney lazy. But once when I watched anime, I could totally say the animators didn't put their all in it (as cruel as it sounds).

Hmm. I just didn't like Frozen because I didn't like any of the songs outside of Let It Go. But it's still a good enough movie. I just don't care for it that much.

Seriously? Haters just can never find a good reason to hate frozen, can they? Some people hate it cuz its "racist", some people hate it cuz it has too much singing yet dont give a shit when a movie or broadway musical has 2 songs in a row, 3 songs in a row even. I mean seriously, me, my sister, my mother, and my grandmother all look the SAME!

This makes me realize just how many people have not play "The Sims 3" as it can get pretty hard to design different types of pretty faces on 3D Especially if they are going for a certain look that establishes them in the same universe . You can do that on Animation because the setting and themes allow reality to bend to whatever crazy scenario that universe allows , such as Anime where anything goes . However Anime's like that of Miyazaki where a style is use often have their characters share a similar look that while Anime maniacs fan praise , to us outsiders the characters might confuse us since at times the characters would look similar to each other . Whispers of the heart is a good example , I love the movie but watching it the first time with my mother she was confuse as to what character was which (it did not help the translation kept the Japanese names) until the film got more focus on the main couple . This whole "BLAHBLAH !!! THEY LOOK THE SAME !! BOUDER DASH !! Bring Me my Monocles !!" is just a bunch of cranky haters that refuse to acknowledge CGI as art other than for Video Games .
If they refuse to move forward that's they fault and they can kept on sticking with their "Japan is the best! Anime is perfect" Phase . I pretty much been there and grow out of it , to be honest , Anime kind of turn me off with their blatant fan service pretentious fill stories .

you...literally cannot equate these two. you just cant. western animation is so vastly different from eastern that comparing the two is already a shaky argument, but then equating them, that's just ignorant. Disney has a staff of thousands of talented, specialized individuals, they have years and years of history as a studio and years of work go into every movie. They're the bar, what every studio works to compete against. Diversity of characters is something they're supposed to be good at.
All of the males in Frozen look completely different and distinguishable from eachother. In anime, that is usually not true. In anime, the focus is almost never on character design, it's on style and aesthetic. Do you see why this was ignorant to make?

I think the so-called ignorance can cut both ways; when all the anime-phobes whine about how "anime just giant saucer eyes!" they can be directed to Disney's latest obsession with designing lead girls with eyes that are bigger than most anime-designed eyes for girls. Of course, trying to bash one in favor of the other is a fruitless exercise (anime/manga styles from the 60s and 70s drew their influences from Disney, and now it's just coming full circle). The real issue being raised by said tumblr blogs is the unwillingness of a multi-billion dollar company like Disney to attempt more diversity than an anime studio that only has 1/1000th of their budget and creative power. It's not as easy an answer, but it's worth asking IMHO.
