Description
Finally, I've done a version of the map that I can feel somewhat content with, but I still feel like adding a few more things to the Main and Port Districts.I have moved the Uskar Temple a little bit further away from the western gate, to the north of the wall that encloses the Palace District).
Palace of Eternal Victory: This sixteen-tiered ziggurat temple, built over three thousand years ago of blue-glazed blocks of stone quarried from the Smoking Mountains, used to be known as The Temple of Heaven. It was the earthly abode of Enlil, the chief deity of the Untheric Pantheon.
In those days, it was a building whose mighty presence inspired with its beauty and seemed to radiate a feeling of tranquility in all nearby. It is said that the temple was built to resemble the Great Mountain of the East, the divine realm on the plane of Elysium that housed the majority of the Untheric gods.
In the early days of Gilgeam’s rule, he kept the old name of the temple, but as he became increasingly tyrannical, the temple became known as the Palace of Eternal Victory. From the temple-palace upon its peak, Gilgeam ruled Unther for two thousand years, passing his days in nigh-unparalleled decadence. The temple sustained great damage from Gilgeam’s final battle with Tiamat on Toril, and the Mulhorandi commanders in Unthalass have little idea of what to do with the 800 ft.-tall ruin. It is said that the pharaoh hopes to rebuild and consecrate the building to Horus-Re, but some commanders hope to dedicate it to Anhur.
Hanging Gardens of Ki: This used to be one of the two centers of worship for Ki, the Untheric goddess of nature. In ages past, this place was green and vibrant even during the dry season, and it was open for people of all classes and backgrounds to relax in the shade of its tall trees and admire the beauty of nature, even when behind city walls. In later days, it became little more than a park for the pleasure of the wealthy.
Library of Enki: Despite never manifesting on Toril, Enki is remembered by many Untherites as the deity who helped his fellows to find the way to this Plane. The scholars of the land compiled great works of astronomy, mathematics, medicine, philosophy, and religious as well as secular literature within its hallowed walls. The library has never been abandoned, as the Untherites have always been a culture that puts much importance on culture and education, but it has also suffered under the tyranny of Gilgeam – the chronicles would often be rewritten to better fit into Gilgeam’s royal ideology.
Dawn Temple: This 170 ft.-tall ziggurat and its ground temple was the residence of the sun god Utu. After that god’s death, Gilgeam took over the temple and made it his easternmost located temple in the Unthalass. Its ground temple, ziggurat, and scribal school is now being repaired to be used by the priests of Horus-Re.
Temple of the Evening Star: This temple is the second greatest dedicated to Ishtar outside of the one that lies in Shussel. The priestesses of the temple have done all they can to keep their ancient traditions alive, and are important patrons to the artists and scholars of Unther.
Temple of the Morning Star: This temple is loved more than any other by the common folk in the city, thanks to its priestesses charitable work, and so was spared from the looting and destruction that ravaged most of the temples in the wake of Gilgeam's death. The Mulhorandi have also spared this temple.
Temple of Storms: This temple has changed hands more than any other in the city.
It was originally the center of Hoar’s/Assuran’s worship in Faerûn, but was claimed by Ramman when he drove Assuran out of Unther. The Temple of Storms was the only temple in Unthalass dedicated to Ramman at that time, as he was a weather god worshipped mostly in the countryside.
With the fall of Ramman during the Time of Troubles, the temple went into Gilgeam’s hands for a short while before his death. When the Mulhorandi captured the city, they quickly turned it into Anhur’s first temple on Untheric soil.
The Great Bazaar: Unthalass has remained an important port city, partly thanks to Unther’s ample agricultural production, but most of all for its great gems, particularly lapis lazuli and pearl, and Untheric sculpture and pottery are prized in many other lands.
In the middle of the Great Bazaar stands one of the two Stelae of Enlil, a massive stone pillar on which the ancient Law Code of Enlil is inscribed for all to see. Even as literacy rates have sunk with Unther’s decline, that stelae are still looked on with pride. Not even Gilgeam dared move the Stelae from their places.
I will write more on the different buildings and blocks later, but I'm a bit tired right now.

Nice work!
Does the city survive the Mulhorandi invasion unscathed? Can't remember if their is any canonical info to that.

Thank you!
Well, the FRCS book does say that "Abuses against the conquered people are rare and rapidly punished", and it does make sense for the Mulhorandi to be nice against the Untherites.
It's the fastest way to get accepted by the people you conquer, especially after how long that Gilgeam ruled and mistreated them.
That being said, Unthalass must have taken a lot of damage in the final showdown between Gilgeam and Tiamat, and many of Gilgeam's temples along with most of the Palace District must have been stormed and plundered in the aftermath.
Besieging a city this size (the 4th biggest in Faerûn, actually!) would have taken months, if not years, but I think the Mulhorandi rebuilt quite a lot of the city and repaired many of the temples but rededicated them to their own deities.

That is if they had to play out the siege. Historically many sieges ended by someone inside letting the besiegers in for one reason or another.

That is an important Point, yes, with the Achaemenid Persians capture of the historical Babylon in 539 BC as a good example (although sources do conflict on exaclty how it happened).
The Mulhorandi's humane treatment of the conquered would be a strong incentive to surrender, but I'd say there's another, even stronger factor, namely: who ruled Unthalass after Gilgeam's Death?
I don't think I've seen any D&D book mention a ruling faction in Unthalass during the period 1358 - 1371 DR, if any. Submission would be preferable to anarchy, especially given how much infrastructure is needed to support such a huge city - maintaining food supplies, keeping the roads and seas free from outlaws, keeping order in the streets, etc.
The Northern Wizards seem to only be based in Messemprar, and I doubt that the cult of Tiamat has enough public support to openly declare themselves rulers. Shussel seems to have been ruled by the temple of Ishtar before the Mulhorandi arrived.

All in all reminds me a bit on Constantinople with the fight between Gilgeam und Tiamat taking the place of the 4th Crusade. Afterwards large parts of the city simply lay empty and in waste and what was still serviceable often fell into disuse and disrepair. Constantinople never recovered fully from that, at least not until conquered by the Ottomans. Just that's about 14 years in between in this case and over 250 years for Constantinople.

Yes, Constantinople is one of those cities that lasted so long and went through so much one could write a lot of interesting stuff of how different historical events affected it, from its roots as a Greek colony to the Roman Conquest, to the Justinian Plague, to the Fourth Crusade, and the Ottoman Conquest, etc.
aaaand: fun news! I've just started submitting chapters of a story taking place in post-Gilgeam Unther! I got an idea of who could be ruling Unthalass: Gudea, the highest officer of the Untherite Army! (at least before the Mulhorandi arrive)
