Description
[If the map looks to small, download this picture]This project has taken me SIX FUCKING MONTHS to finish. This map is the fifth map of its kind that I've made, and the only that I'm at least somewhat content with. I have been slaving over my computer testing ideas and designing flags so much that I fear I might get carpel tunnel syndrome. I guess I should expect this going forward, seeing as this is my first real major digital art project. (By the way, if you are somehow offended by this map.... sorry.)
Basically, in the future, Earth is united under a single democratic/technocratic government. The first-level political divisions are enormous superstates, loosely based on culture. The capitals of these superstates are (with the exception of the European Federation) located in large population centers. Antarctica is a unincorporated territory of Earth, even though it now has a permanent population of around 988,500. Earth also controls five Stanford Toruses in Earth orbit. The Earth Federation controlled colonies on the Moon, Mars, and the outer planets, but most of these eventually either defect or peacefully gain automomy. Nearlly all humans (not just on Earth) are cybernetically enhanced, to the point where they are all connected within a massive neural network (like your sad addiction to Facebook). Also, parts of the Sahara desert have been flooded for irrigation.
Aside from excessive annoyance at my own perfectionism, this was fun to make. I especially enjoyed making the flags. My favorite is that of of Eastasia. I dunno, I just really like the design of it. What do you think? Is this an interesting (if extremely optimistic) scenario? I don't care, leave a cripplingly bad comment, existence is terrifying. Yay!

FINALLY. A world I could embrace anytime, without any bias who dominates who.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Not saying this is utopia, but good enough for my views.

I'm glad you like it. Though I will admit, I have grown tired of the map. Most of the effort I put into it was going into making it look nice, not making it realistic.

Realism is but an illusion, mate. Reality is what we ourselves make them to be.

Yay Esperanto ! Seriously, not enough ATL use it.
Flags are pretty much spot on. My minor quibble is the Middle eastern one: blue just seems out of place and green could have been repeated there.

The blue is for Judaism. This is a world so at peace with itself, that a small Jewish country like Israel could successfully join a league of Islamic nations

Wow, I really like the idea! All the world united as one... it seems impossible right now *cough* North Korea *cough*, but that would be so cool!
I see you set it into the future. So, this map could still happen, and I would honestly love that!
I like the flag designs. My personal favorite is probably Turkestan. They all look amazing, tho.
Poor rejected Antarctica, tho... XD

Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
North Korea is basically a screaming child in a supermarket. Just give it what it wants, and it'll stop crying. And they're not going to nuke us, we could literally level the place if we wanted to.
I'm glad you like the flags! My favorite is Eastasia, but I really like Turkestan as well! And Antarctica doesn't have a flag because I forgot.

XD Yup! NK is exactly that.
And oh. Oh, well. I'm pretty sure we aren't going to settle Antartica anyways XD

I mean, if nuclear fusion power ever becomes viable, then living on Antarctica is a piece of cake.

Dayum, six months!? Well I can say that it payed off because it looks nice! The flags especially; their designs are good. I like how you can see how that they draw from the original, while having the new design. It's a good balance, I think. Hmm, my favorite would be Oceania (I'm not biased). I like the futuristic design. But Sydney is the capital? Eh, it's overrated xD. What would the Global capital be? Although our world is growing closer together, I think a global government would be impractical. Would Antarctica be given some sort of representation soon? Since a million people is a lot to leave unrepresented.
Omg, Tyson and Sagan tori? Ā I guess, in 2175, they would be looked back upon as how we look back upon people like Newton and Galileo.
Wouldn't South East Asia be a part of Eastasia? Since it's closer culturally.

I'm glad you like it! The flags were probably the most fun to make, especially Oceania's flag. Now, I only chose Sydney as the capital of Oceania because it happens to be the largest city in the region. I'm not sure if there would even be a capital of Earth, each superstate capital might just take turns being the de facto capital and hosting the representatives of the superstates. Yeah, I guess a world government is pretty impractical. Antarctica gets representation, it's just not enough people live there for it to be classified as a superstate (and I forgot to make a flag for it).Ā
I'm definitely not biased with the Tyson and Sagan tori. Nope. Not at all.
South East Asia is a tricky thing. It is culturally close to east asia, but also to the Indian Subcontinent. It was a bit of an arbitrary decision.

Well, you see, Sydney is the largest city today, but Melbourne is much faster growing, and is expected to supersede Sydney in size by 2030. We bash on Sydney as a joke, because it's like our version of New York; well known around the world, all the tourists go there, and many of them think it's the capital. So we call it overrated xD
I wonder if rotating capitals would work, there doesn't seem to be anything inherently wrong with it. Yet, I don't think it's been put in practice anywhere else before. You could try making a flag for Antarctica It would be harder to create since there are no existing cultural symbols to work with.
Hey, I can't blame you for liking them, it's not like they haven't been telling people of the wonders of our universe through science xDĀ I'm a fan of them too, as well as Brian Cox, Michio Kaku, and many others in fact.

Hey, sorry for not replying for a while. I've been swamped with end-of-semester exams.
Wow, I guess I should have been more careful about which city I chose! Melbourne, largest city in 14 years. Imagine the population in 2175!
I think I will make a flag for Antarctica. A fun little challenge for me. I'll probably edit the map to include it, as well as pick a better capital for Oceania.
Some men just want to see the world learn.

No, that's fine. I hope that they are going well
I doesn't matter really, I was just joking. Who knows what city will become important and influential that far into the future. I read somewhere that by 2045, Melbourne will be 8 million in size (now it's 4.5 million). Quite a growth.
Yep, I agree with that last sentence

Thanks! They should be over by next Thursday.
I guess it doesn't matter too much, but I'll still change it. The more I think about it, the more having Sydney as the capital just feels wrong.
I'd like a t-shirt with that sentence on it.
