Description
Check out the finished pic here [link]Ok well hurray I finally did a tutorial!! I'm really sorry I didn't show you how I actually DREW the horse, it would've made the tutorial WAY too long!!! So yeah, you guys can just settle with somehow obtaining or creating your own lineart that you can colour using this tutorial.
Wow step 3 sounds like the most non-logical thing ever [the word is 'off' not 'of' as well oops
If you have any questions about any of the steps or anything, feel free to ask!!!

This is really helpful! Thanks for making this, it's great to learn how other artists are working
Also I like the non-inking look, I ink my drawings but yours look better without inking
I have no idea if that made sense, xD but hey I'm ill at the moment, I have an excuse x3

i'm glad it's helpful!! yeah i don't ink because i always manage to stuff it up somehow XD and i prefer to fix up my picture as i colour instead of having a permanent line

xD If I am trying to draw more realistic then I don't ink, but I dunno I guess as I learned people always advised inking so I did, now it's a habbit xD
And it sucks when inking messes up T_T

Looks great, very helpful! One question- how do you get the colors to blend so perfectly together? What kind of paper do you use? And how do you determine where the strands of fur go? Oops, sorry, that's more than one question, huh?

In-The-Distance In reply to Sylvaerian [2008-11-17 09:59:10 +0000 UTC]
hahah!! ok:
well i use a white pencil a lot to blend the colours together, but also just cover the picture with layers and layers of pencil.
for this picture i actually just used boring old white plain paper you'd use to print something XD
and umm for the strands of fur I just do them in the approximate direction that the fur would be flowing.... err sorry that last answer isn't very helpful
well i'm glad the tutorial is helpful!!!

Seriously, you must be the first great artist with coloured pencils that has made a tutorial that explains how the colouring can possibly look so stunning.
I might try this way on my next picture...
(I swear each time I colour a picture I use a different style!)

About how much do they cost, do you know?

In-The-Distance In reply to Ikanku [2008-11-04 11:10:41 +0000 UTC]
umm well my 48 Classic Colour Faber Castell pack of pencils cost around $20 [australian dollars]
The polychromo ones are a lot more expensive (they're like $1-$2 each >.<[hence why i don't have many of them].)
I'd totally reccomend the classic colour ones

i'm not sure. i can sort of draw girls or women (as you can partly see in two of a kind (check my gallery to see it)) but not men or boys. i've tried before. i jucked the drawing in a recycle bin. hopefully it's gone for good. i think someone would faint if they saw it.

Thanks for your tutorial on how to color glossy, elegant horses!
Your tips on blending the different shades are very helpful, and the way you do your manes and tails is an excellent alternative to my previous strategy (which was: make it a white or black mane/tail! and just do an outline if it is white, and color the whole thing if it is black!)

so, in order to make it look better, i need to use a lot of complimenting colors together...

woooow, theres a real art to the way you do your.. art * well said ...*
Very Nice!!! Extremely impressive... all those layers, brilliant
i reckon part nine where you mention that yellow and brown look crap you should also mention your brand because with mine yellow and brown create warm honey colours (that look good )
i think step 12 is my favourite

LOL XD
oh maybe it's just my shade of brown that looks gross with it - a warm honey colour - i wish mine did that!!
yeah i really like step 12 too XD that's where i used to just leave my pics at, but I've been working on not having too much white
thanks ^^
