Description
EDIT: I have discovered that I really can't paint a forest canopy digitally, so I had to resort to a picture off the internet, blurred and edited for saturation, levels etc. Not my ideal bg, but it'll do. The clouds are all mine, thoughEDIT2: What? I got the *DragonSpirit-Club weekly feature? What what what?
A request for ~The-Greenie-Fire for winning 1st prize in my "Darkness Before the Dawn" contest. I know, I know, that was ages ago, but I've been busy this summer (*GASP* I actually have a social life now!) and I did promise that it would be top-quality.
She asked for a "forest guardian" dragon but I asked if it could be a rainforest guardian to fit with her entry, in the aztec feathered serpent mould. I started this the night before results day when I needed something to distract me - hence all the detail in the feathers, so I couldn't think about anything else!
Hope you enjoy it - now I've just got ~1mm0r7al999 's 2nd prize to do, along with =rohirrimshadow 's trade, =shadowsand 's ref preoject, Zodiac: Jinx Part 8.... *mutter mutter*

This is really neat! <3 I love how everything blends together, including the colors. Though, if the creature is flying, there's a little something funky going on with the tail, as it should be placed outward to be used as a rutter. Overall, nice! <3

Thanks - this was drawn in order to distract me on the might before my last exam results day, hence all the detail to take my mind off things I know the tail should be streamlined, but then it would be cut off at the edge of the page and wouldn't fit; I sacrificed a little realism for being able to see all the colour gradiant and feathers
Just pretend he's coming out of an acrobatic turn, and it works!

Thanks, and I'm glad I inspired you! The background was only ever going to be one thing, it being a rainforest guradian and all

It was nice without the background, but it's now mush more complete! I really like the fact that the background is blurred. It gives a sense of height and of speed. The height is also reinforced with the clouds, which are nicely done by the way. Finally, the view from above is great. It's a really good work you got there

Thank you! It was really hard to find a picture that was at the right angle AND was big enough to fill the background, so I'm glad I found this one. I did edit it quite a bit though - the trees were actually quite yellowish in the original, I had to fix that

This is really amazing! The guardian really looks like a rainforest guardian, with the feathers and all. And a dragon species called amphiteres (I hope that's the correct word o.o) yet also very much an amphitere I'm currently working on. I saw it in my dream, the picture of an amphitere and decided to bring that picture alive. I still need to finish it, though, but don't be confused when I post it, it really looks a lot like this one. :'D
But back to the picture. I already mentioned it is amazing, I especially like the way you have coloured it. I is so detailed and the way you've used different colours is really good looking. Those feathers on the wings that turn slightly purple little by little are very lovely. You've improved with colouring very much.
The anatomy of the guardian also looks great, I love how his tail bends! And the shape of his head is also very nice.
The background fits very nicely, you've cut it nicely and the handmade part and the photo don't looks too different, they fit well together. I even thought that the clouds were part of the photo too. They look great and so does the way you have edited the photo. The amphitere really seems to fly rather fast.
Great work!

Thanks a lot! Yes, he is an ampthitre (I don't know how to spell it either
) - that's the technical term for all dragons of this breed, I think - and cool, what a coincidence! Can't wait to see yours
I'm glad you like the colouring, as I said it's some of the most detailed I'd done in order to distract me from results I wanted the tail to be out straight to give the speed impression, but then it wouldn't fit so I had to bend it - it looks Ok then?
I'm flattered that you thought the clouds were realistic, they really were only quick things I was tearing my hair out by then - I really dislike using photos, but digital work is not my forte and the BLOODY canopy would NOT WORK
But it came out OK in the end, and the clouds conveniantly cover a big house that was a it of an eyesore in it
Again, thank you very much!

You're very welcome!
And what comes to my piece, I think I can finish it in few days.
Actually I didn't notice that the tail would look odd when it's bend in speed. I guess it is okay, at least it doesn't look bad at all. It's rather disturbing when you can't fit all things well in the picture. u__u
Haha, I see! I dislike using photos, too, and have never used them, actually. I'd avoid such thing as far as I could, but I see your point. This doesn't look bad at all, though. You edited it so nicely.

Such things are very annoying. But it doesn't seem to bother too much.
