I know several of you have merchandise you import or get someway from America, where ever this DVD is released, I must ask you to do that again.===END EDIT
Well, this is part of my answer to the question of the week over at Anime News Network . The question is:
"What old series/movie are you interested in that the new crop of fans is completely uninterested in? Why do you think that is? What steps would you take to reverse it."

Well, I don't think I need to tell you what series I enjoy XD
Seriously, this show had a prime place to gain a following, the Toonami block on weekdays in the 2000's was THE PLACE for animation. But, it didn't garner enough favor to appease the rating gods and it was banished to like 4:30am. What is more disheartening is the series never ran its course in broadcast, missing the last 4 episodes, and we cannot even view it through other means like a streaming site or DVDs.
It just makes me sad.
I wish, I could petition streaming sites to run the series in full, that would be a dream, though, I am unsure how to go about doing that.

Youtube has Β several decent episodes. I can link a playlist if you want - both seasons are availabvle and most of the OVAs. The audio is good quality with either english subtitles or english dubbed.

i dont think yuyu hakusho or ruroni kenshin even finished either in the US. shame too. outlaw star, kenshin, hakusho and cyborg 009 were my favorite shows on toonami.

Hells yeah! Sure the manga's plot had more holes than swiss-cheese, it still deserves more love!
Seriously, what happened after they fought the Mythos cyborgs? Did they die? Was it all a dream? Was it a retcon? I'M SO CONFUSED!

omg, the storytelling in the manga at the beginning was just... terrible! XD
On the wikipedia page, there was a break between Ishinomori's work on the manga, between volumes 7 and 8. So I try to think this was something of a 'ending'. Kind of a statement of fighting and war gets you nowhere... Still is a lame story end! Glad he got back to the series with volume 8!

Indeed, but he also tried to end it in volume ten(which some consider the REAL ending) but after being told the that ending was GOD AWFULLY DEPRESSING he realized he kept the series going. I feel he was fighting every urge to give it a sad sci-fi ending, which is why the series never had an ending before he died. Which ironically the absence of an ending is the saddest ending possible.

As I understood, Ishinomori's son is working on an ending for 009 in Japan, based on his father's notes. Though I haven't seen any progress on that in a while, so I don't know the state of it.
Wish Ishinomori could've made the ending himself.

They won the battle, the mythos cyborgs died and the cyborgs 00 returned to their normal lives XD This is all I can remenber.

But what about that chick who looked like Helen after the time skip? Was she related to her? Its confusing.
And when they reminisce about first meeting each other Joe remembers 007 as a kid when he first met him, yet he gained a youth's body later on due to his molecular changing ability constantly resetting his metabolism. Yet when he remembers when he first met him he's a kid. Honestly I'd like to think that when 001 and the psychic Mythos cyborg clashed it was so powerful that it reset the entire universe! Either that or Ishinimori wasn't that good a writer. I love the guy and all, but his stuff is RIDDLED with as many plot-holes as there are cyborgs and depressing sci-fi endings.

they were sisters. *Spoiler* 004 fell in love with Bina but in the end, she and her other 3 sisters died.

I think the same as you, I was so confused with the last episode(*spoilers* joe defeats black gost, destroys his giant robot in space, jet/002 comes to the rescue but then they fall into earth, cathing fire in the process. In the end, I didn't know if they lived or died >.>)

Anyway, It is really sad to know that the story of Cyborg 009 didn't get very much glory, as apart from the mediocre animation and the terrible subbing (I had to re-watch at least 16 scenes to even know what the hell was going on) the story it's self is simply glorious. I wish they would do a re-create of the 2001 version, and include the alternate ending--via episodes 49-51 and actually /finish/ the alternate ending, even though the artist himself died before he could complete it.

Too true. I was trying to watch it a while ago and while they have some subbed episodes on youtube, you have to like decipher them and figure out what they are attempting to say. Awkward but good for a laugh at poor grammer. I just wish they had all of the 1979 episodes online. Those are EPIC but I can only find some of them.

I couldn't agree more! This show was the shit! and it didn't get the recognition it deserved! i partially blame the Cartoon Network censorship, if they would've said "damn" more than just once and kept some of the more darker themes, it think it would've been more popular.
