Petition for streaming Cyborg 009 on American websites . This is American only because they block them from other countries. Petition for releasing Cyborg 009 on DVD . I know several of you have merchandise you import or get someway from America, where ever this DVD is released, I must ask you to do that again.===END EDIT
Well, this is part of my answer to the question of the week over at Anime News Network . The question is:
"What old series/movie are you interested in that the new crop of fans is completely uninterested in? Why do you think that is? What steps would you take to reverse it."

Well, I don't think I need to tell you what series I enjoy XD
Seriously, this show had a prime place to gain a following, the Toonami block on weekdays in the 2000's was THE PLACE for animation. But, it didn't garner enough favor to appease the rating gods and it was banished to like 4:30am. What is more disheartening is the series never ran its course in broadcast, missing the last 4 episodes, and we cannot even view it through other means like a streaming site or DVDs.
It just makes me sad.
I wish, I could petition streaming sites to run the series in full, that would be a dream, though, I am unsure how to go about doing that.

oh gosh yes! This show was MADE for the age group they were going for! They could've kept it 100% in-tact and be fine.
oh yes, I am very familiar with this film, I follow the daily updates from the production company ^^ I'm most excited to hear, that even before the film is being released in Japan, an English script is in production. What for??? Not sure, at the very least, I hope subtitles on the Japanese Blu-Ray.

I would LOVE to see it again. I never saw much of the 2001(?) version, but I have seen the much older versions. I wish Tokyopop would bring back their English version of the manga (which I have in original Japanese and it looks like the Dead Sea Scrolls!).

Indeed! Especially since the last chapter update starts up with Monster Island...I really love the intended ending as someone who likes tragedy, but I'm totally not ok with Jet dying.
I heard about Cyborg 009 on one of my groups and looked into it, cause the name hooked me. So I found the manga first, and yeah nuff said. So upset that the english dub stopped at ep 34...those fuzzy tv rips are all I have... I signed the petitions already... So want so better quality.

I am totally the same way. The ending of the manga originally is so beautiful, but... why did Jet have to die? How exactly did the tie of friendship work in with the anti-war theme??? gah.... (

yeah. I'm working with that group, and it's been slow, but they are working on it! I'm amazed we have so much scanned!! (would be better if a certain 009 fan who has tons of Japanese volumes in her closet would scan them so our collection was complete 
actually, now that I think about it. It was necessary for Jet to come to Joe for this reason. So Joe knew that everyone was OK, and that he did good. And Jet going to save Joe really does fit with his personality.

How have I not seen this in my five years on dA? Or my ten or so years of being a big Cyborg 009 fan?
Links followed, petitions signed, artwork favorited. Keep fighting the good fight! And I wonder if the new movie will give the series enough oomph to be widely distributed again. I have my episodes 1-8 at home, but I would pay a fair sum to get all of them, and more.

I am really excited too. I have some drawbacks, the biggest of which is that I kinda see more Ghost in the Shell in there then Cyborg 009 at first glance, and that bugs me, and I want to know for sure that Kamiya knows that while they're both about humans with cybernetic augments and have humanity questions and whatnot, they are two different series. It might just be the direction style reminds me heavily of Stand Alone Complex (heck, 003 even does the thing where she drops from a high place with lady legs on full view into a big dark future city all around her, something that looks like it was taken directly from the intro of Stand Alone Complex. And she's got those big visor things too.). I mean, Ghost in the Shell was okay, but that just kinda stayed with me.
But while that might seem like a big complaint, it's more of just a fear on my part of what could go wrong. Because in the end, all complaints end in OHMAHGAWD, They're making a new Cyborg 009 movie! I'm actually really curious to see how they modernize it! Because if they kept their wonderful uniforms with the Ishimori scarves and everything, there's definitely respect in there. And I want to know what they do, and how well they do it. I hope so hard it's coming to America!

Yes, like you said, I'll love to see how they tweak the story and keep the theme the same, I know some things will be different, but they will respect the original theme of the show.
I would so love a copy of this in my DVD/BD!!!!!! I can only hope that will happen <3

lol yeah, we do what we can as fans. There are torrents, and most of 2001 in English is on YouTube. (if I recall correctly, we are only missing 35, 36, 40, 41, 44 in English)
