Another of several illustrations produced in August of 2007 for the video game On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, from Hothead Games and Penny Arcade (subcontracted through Imaginary Friends Studios ). Check out my most recent Journal entry for more details.

This one was my next most favorite character after the Steam Fruit F***er, and a lot more challenging. Unlike the other portraits I was assigned, this one came with no reference sketch from Gabe (Mike), but just a render of the 3D model and a single strip from 2006 .

I like a challenge.

I illustrated the cat on his back because that was the pose the 3D model reference was in. I included a proud view of his starfish because it was on the model, and I takes my leads as they're given. Plus, if you're not already used to seeing kitty butt, you obviously don't own a cat. They live for the sharing.

I didn't need to draw the whole cat, just his head, but like the SFF I got a little carried away and went for the whole caboodle. It makes a nice wallpaper. In retrospect I think I overextended his back foot, but nobody called me on it at the time and it's a little late to cry about it now. It's still one of my favorites from the set.
