So pre Volume 5 I was saying I was going to make fanart... and then I didn't... xD Sorry!
However I've gotten some RWBY fuel back so here you go! Volume 5 fanart!
This was by far one of my favorite lines in the whole Volume, it just spoke VOLUMES. And showed how much Blake had overcome her fear of Adam, and how he was so much more powerless without that hold on her mind.
I was kinda doing some 'fake anime screenshots thing' so it ended up like this, not an exact replica of the original scene, but the way I liked it.

I'm hoping they have better things planned for Adam, like, making him a likable bad guy (think Aizen) and not this cliche he has become, but I have hardly any faith in that anymore. Not sure why they went the way they did with him, kinda sucks, he's a waste of a character so far and he's been my favorite male character of the series.
That quote Blake said...so settling her past with her former partner, getting some payback for her parents almost being murdered, and her other partners arm being taken (though running blindly into a fight exposed Yang depending too much on her aura) meant nothing to her??? Seriously? There were many flaws with how Vol 5 ended (felt so rushed), but maybe Vol 6 will be better now that the gangs back together. Gotta stop showing the story rather than telling.

I just want to clarify that I don't mean this rudely or sarcastically:
Have you seen the Adam V6 short? I realize it wasn't out when you wrote this, of course, and I hoped maybe you would like it. Adding more depth to who he is as a person.

I loved the Adam short. I liked how they showed his decent from who he originally was to what he was at the end of Vol 5. I'm hoping they continue and he can somehow redeem himself. He's got a lot to do to do that, but it's not out of the question. Blake left the group at the worst possible time and they immediately welcomed her back with open arms (though I'm hoping Yang at least lets her know how much it hurt).
At the very least, I don't want him dying for some stupid reason. Yang and him won't fight as long as Blake is there and the good guys could use someone who was on the inside. He's hit bottom, he's got nothing, no where to go but up

Yeah, I think that him finally understanding where his choices have landed him has set up a good platform for him to begin to change his ways. The dynamic between him and Yang would probably be similar to that of Katara and Zuko (though much more intense) for a while.
I'm thinking RWBY was just so happy to finally be back together that they didn't have it in themselves to be standoffish. Of course, I agree with you, and I also really want to see Yang and Blake address everything that happened once the victory high has passed. Weiss's talk certainly helped, but we know the damage runs so deep that it will certainly come out.

Exactly. The band is back together, this is so awesome, but once the travel to Mistral starts, then they can have a chat and wrap things up. The Weiss talk did help, it made sure Yang's anger and bitterness wouldn't boil over at some point.
It would be rough sailing if Adam gets thrown into the fold of team RWBY vs Salem, but the greater good should hold priority. No doubt Blake's parents will have their own wrath for him, can't say that I'm not looking forward to Kali dishing out some pain, love her character.
Not sure what is next for the team, but they are back together, which is what the fandom wanted. A lot easier to tell a story with all four together and not apart.

I see it less as if it meant nothing to her, and more that she's accepted her past and chosen to move onto the future, and that means letting go of the control that Adam had over her. This whole scene felt very powerful to me, because it showed just how far Blake had grown past her fear. Fear is only strong as long as you give it power.

I find it interesting how Blake can be wishy-washy about her past. When confronting Adam the first time, she was shocked to see him, but wasn't afraid enough to engage him in a fight. When she's spoken about him, she doesn't hint at fear, and also shows how he transformed from when she first knew him to up to this current point. There feels like there are so many holes in the entire Blake backstory and Adam in general that it's tough to invest any emotion in it. She doesn't even know how he came to work for Salem's group, that's pretty key. I guess I just see things a different way, maybe cuz I liked Adam since the Black Trailer, but the fanbase has been so bad with him. We know nothing concrete about their past, Blake has never said "he abused me", the slap during the volume 3 fight was in the context of a fight, he wasn't going to hit her with a pillow, and how he yelled at her...well, she did abandon him and those feelings have likely boiled up inside. Sorry, rambling.
I guess I'm just hoping that they flesh this out so there can be a concrete backstory and no more speculation. Proven moments in Blake and Adam's backstory, like how we know about Weiss's family dysfunction.

Well, you don't have to have been abused by something to be afraid of it. I feel as though she's more scared of what Adam represents than of him as a person. Or rather, she was scared. I'll agree that we have too little information on their entire past, but I still feel as though the conflict between Blake and Adam was supposed to be more of a metaphor than anything else during Volume 5. They built him up to be this giant threat (which he probably actually is, and will be in the future), this representation of fear. I guess I just really enjoyed whole message behind it all, even with the holes that are there.

I still can't believe Adam got away so easily. Did NOBODY try to chase him? The cops had the school surrounded and there were supposedly Huntsmen on the way as well, and he still managed to escape. Yes, I know Blake thought that she and Sun would lose if they tried to go after him, but it still irks me. What was the point of bringing an army if they couldn't fight Adam even when he was massively outnumbered? Blake's sick burn aside, I have a feeling Adam was right when he said that she was still afraid of him.
Anyway, I definitely hope that Ilia was right when she said that Adam is now alone. I think he might still have followers in the White Fang, though. I mean, come on, he murdered their previous leader right in front of her guards and got away with it, so surely his craziest supporters will forgive him for running away. Still, it's possible that he can't get to those who still believe in his cause, so at least he's alone physically. That said, he is still one dangerous mofo. I hope Salem won't want to help him anymore, but sadly, Salem might still find him useful, even though we all know that only means she will dispose of him at a later time. I don't want Salem to kill Adam, though. I want one of the good guys to finish him off. They need to understand that some people are beyond help, and I think it would make for some nice drama if one of the heroes had to actually take a life. I mean, if they had no other choice, of course.

I think it was probably the chaos of the situation. There was a lot of stuff going on, and maybe, think, if people did try to stop Adam... they might be dead.

While I'm glad Blake's not afraid of Adam, anymore (and he's effectively self-destructed the White Fang), she and the fans SHOULDN'T underestimate Adam, especially now that he has virtually nothing left to lose AND is willing to kill even HIMSELF to make sure Blake doesn't win ever again.
The fact he escaped arrest and survived the Battle of Haven means he's a viable threat. And keep in mind, in a stable mindset, his power level is still that high enough he CAN possibly solo Team RWBY at their current level. Before anyone argues otherwise, keep in mind, none of them are actually Maiden level, yet, and furthermore, they're all still weak compared to Salem's troops. Ruby's neglected learning anything about controlling her power for two volumes and was briefly defeated by Emerald when she tried it, and has just recently begun serious hand-to-hand unarmed combat training, her biggest flaw. Weiss hasn't mastered summoning enough, that an average, fully trained bandit can shatter her summons, she only survived Cinder because Cinder underestimated Jaune's usefulness and didn't bother consider killing him after seeing his despair, and Hazel can still tank getting stabbed by one of her summon. Yang is the only member of Team RWBY who hasn't fully kept up with physical training, only getting back into it mid-late Volume 4 after half a year at home, so had Yang actually come to blows with Raven, she would have been easily slaughtered, so Yang had to logic and talk her way out of that potential fight, and she barely avoid pissing her mom off to see just how far past the Moral Event Horizon Raven really is (and considering the fact that she has betrayed her Huntsman team for bandits, abandoned her own husband and daughter for nearly 18 years without ever attempting to contact them directly, the numerous raids she's lead that have lead to numerous villages being destroyed, murdered the precious Spring Maiden (implied to have been a traumatized teenage girl no older than Pyrrha at the time of the kill) for not meeting her standards, and betrayed her brother, daughter, and teammate's child to Salem's people to serve as a distraction to steal the Relic of Knowledge in a false belief that Salem wouldn't bother her with the power boost it would give, Raven's crossed it) if she considered killing her daughter herself as an option. And, let's be honest, here: does anyone REALLY think if Adam had a far more stable mindset, that brief confrontation Blake had with him would have gone as well as it did? Even if she's gotten enough confidence to be afraid of him and he's clearly lost any sense of logic, Adam is STILL capable of cutting something to the point it disintegrates, and is able to get past Aura to the point that Cinder, whose dominated EVERY physical challenge she's faced until Raven, refused to f**k with him until she had at least half of the Fall Maiden's powers.
White Fang or no White Fang, he's still one of the most dangerous characters out there, and he can make Blake eat her words and regret ignoring him. Cornered animals WILL fight back. And Adam is cornered, now.

I agree. Adam no longer has his White Fang buddies, but even if he’s now on his own, that guy’s still a force to be reckoned with. Team RWBY and their friends will have to be careful, since it won’t just be Salem’s goons they’ll have to watch out for.

I feel like you've got some good points. Honestly I agree that Adam is a threat. I think most of the reason he got taken out this time was cause
1. He was outnumbered
2. He underestimated/was surprised by Blake.

and how the tables have turned and he was the one letting Rage get the better of him
