Maybe it's just because they're blue, but I kind of have the sense that Bolians were invented to replace Andorians in the franchise, because it was felt by TPTB that Andorians looked too "silly." Just last night I saw someone wondering in the comments of an Andorian drawing about why that species all but disappeared from the spinoffs until you got to Enterprise, and my response was that it was probably because the general consensus behind the scenes was that Andorians represented a too simplistic, outdated idea of what aliens might look like- pretty much the same reason you also see no Orions until you get to Enterprise. Ironically, Bolians don't get nearly as much love as Andorians; out of curiosity, I just did a search and found there is apparently ten times as much fanart devoted to Andorians than there is for Bolians.

I think Andorians are some of the best Trek races in the series....and the antenna go on the back of the head

I agree; I think they're cool. Personally, I'm not so fussy about the antennae placement, though. I can kind of see why they altered the look the way they did- in order to demonstrate that the makeup has gotten more sophisticated since the days of sticking a couple antennae in a wig.

That maybe.....but I have a problem with facial features walking over you head to suit FX guys. They was nothing wrong with the old design.....just someone wanted to again put down the original and forge their own. It's one of the reasons I don't like new Trek as much. It spent a lot of time deconstructing the original.

The Bolian tactical officer seen in DS9's first episode at the battle of wolf 359 perked my interest in the race. In my opinion the only other interesting appearance was in Conspiracy. Didn't care for other appearances
