Just the fact that they are ALL there is setting me off, since I've always assumed the "unofficial" story that McCoy joined up AFTER a failed marriage/practice/death of dad...leaving a private practice behind.

JJ ABrams says this is an alternative history not to replace the original. I hope that is true only because I will never accept all the other Berman Bragga stuff that ruined the show overall. Even Enterprise for all its production value spat in the face of TOS. re-imagine means a crappy insulting version of a previously successful show.
Well that's my opinion. I don't argue with those who like it just saying my heroes got watered down with the constant copies.

I disagree with your definition of "re-imagined". Take a look at Battlestar Galactica - the original series ran for only one season and it's spinoff (Galactica 1980) was an abomination against nature. Ron Moore's version has run for four seasons, a miniseries and a feature-length film (Razor).
Admittedly, this is often not the case and maybe Galactica is the exception. But I stilll disagree.

The new Galactica is not a favorite show of mine. If you like it that's good, cuz there is few good SF series that hang around long and at least you enjoy it. I just don't see what the re-imagined version is offering me a fan of the original. It is so nothing like what it was. I'm not interested in arguing about it but I often think why they even bothered using Galactica to tell this story. They could have left out everything..characters, names and places and still told the same tale without paying any homage to the original.

Oh, I'll admit there's worlds of difference between Ron Moore's Galactica and Glen Larson's. Heck aside from character names and the basic premise - a single warship protecting a fleet and the last remnants of the human race - there's really not much similar between them. But I think RDM's Galactica stands on it's own really well. The original Galactica was pretty good, but it tried really hard to be Star Wars. Nothing wrong with Star Wars, but there is a problem with trying to say: "Let's do something like that and cash in on the sci-fi hype around it."
But we digress from the important topic. That is one lucky goldshirt.

You are absolutely right. It is fair to say the New Galactica can stand well on it's own. Larson's Galactica was a pitch for an SF series before Star Wars existed and only got the green light because of Star Wars' success. obviously some similarities were pointed out, but you could also say Star Wars is a rip off of several things including DUNE, Lord of the Rings and a japanese film which I forget the title of.

The Kelvin is a bit odd...but sooooo TOS. The inside of the enterprise looks a bit tooo bleach white for my taste...but i've only seen it in flashes
